Chapter Three - Only A Pair Of Scissors

Saturday, 20th June 2020

KRYSTALLIA

After washing the blood off, Kris, KT, Sam, Zach, and I sat down in the living room to wind down from the exhausting day. Kris and KT were on the couch, Zach and I on the loveseat, and Sam, being the lonely guy he is, sat in the armchair.

Zach had his arm draped on my shoulder and I leaned into him. While waiting for dinner to be served, we were watching a documentary about these high schoolers.

The film was talking about how they managed fame and school at the same time. One was a cartoonist, another one was a pianist, there's a baking one, an artist, and a writer. All five of them got famous in their own ways and I was happy for them. At least they didn't go down my way...

This guy next to me wasn't even focusing on the television any more as he started to play with my hair and trying to braid it without my help.

Soon though, Martha called out, "Dinner's ready!"

I jumped up and over the couch Kris and KT were sitting on, racing Sam to the dining room. We were beyond hungry from today and wanted the first bite of chicken.

Just before the doorway, Sam picked me up and turned around so he was in front before letting me go and I almost fell if it weren't for Zach catching me. When I regained stability, Sam was already biting a chicken leg.

I stared at him in disbelief, "How fucking dare you?! Such a cheater!"

He grinned after swallowing, "We agreed on no rules, Krystie. Cheating doesn't count."

I threw a dinner knife at him but he swiftly caught it in between his palms after dropping the chicken leg on the plate.

"Fuck you and your accurate catch," I mumbled and Zach placed his hands on my shoulder, maneuvering me to the table. He pulled out a chair for me and pushed me to sit before taking a seat beside me.

I stuck my tongue at Sam and he gave me the middle finger.

"Hey," Kris warned and I pouted before digging into dinner. I felt something kick my feet and looked up to see Sam with a genuine smile before pushing his plate of fries towards me.

I raised an eyebrow at him and he just mouthed and winked, "Just take it. I know you love it."

I smiled gratefully and took the plate, placing it next to mine. Zach raised an eyebrow in suspicion but didn't question it as he ate his dinner.

We continued to eat while talking about the French gang that we're trying to get an alliance with when the doorbell rang. A maid went to answer it, but came back and headed into the main kitchen.

She came back out with a little frantic expression on her face as she came towards me, "I apologize for bothering you, miss, but would you happen to know where Cain is? Someone's at the door for him."

I nodded and got up. I remembered Cain telling me before we left that he was taking the day off and would be in his room. I walked into the staff quarters where workers who didn't go home lived and went to the kitchen section.

The maid trailed behind as I walked to Cain's room and lightly knocked on the door. I heard a faint 'come in' and opened the door.

"Ginger, someone's at the door for you."

He looked up from his bed and hopped off, jogging towards me, "Miss, a nice surprise to see you here."

"Really? Well, put on a jacket. Someone's at the door."

He nodded and took a jacket from the back of the door, slipping it on as he followed the maid and I. I sat back down at the dining table and gestured for him to follow the maid.

I thought I could enjoy my meal, but the shouting from the front door stopped me.

"Jesus, what the hell?" Kris put his utensils down and got up. I stood up and followed because I'm nosy like that. Kris noticed and placed a hand on my back on instinct whenever I stand next to him.

We saw Cain standing in front of someone and shouting, "Vanessa, we're done! Get that through your skull!"

Kris cleared his throat and Cain immediately turned around, his eyes widening when he saw me, "Miss. Sir. I apologize for disturbing you."

Kris nudged me and I spoke, "It's fine. Is everything alright here?"

He hastily nodded, "Yes, miss. It's nothing to worry about," he said, turning his head slightly to glare at the girl. I took a step right and saw a girl with sleek black hair and blue eyes. Her gaze met mine and I noticed it darken.

Dude, we haven't met and you already chose to hate me.

Cain stepped in front of her to block me from her vision, "Leave, Vanessa."

"But, Cain-"

"I said leave, damn it! You can't just show up here and expect me to reconcile with you."

I placed a hand on his shoulder and he turned to face me, his eyes softening when he saw me.

"Just go to your room."

He opened his mouth to protest, but closed it and nodded, heading towards the quarters. I faced the so-called 'Vanessa' and she had a deep scowl on her face.

"Please leave the premises, you're trespassing on private property," I calmly stated and she exploded, "You! You must be the one he's seeing behind my back! How dare you steal Cain from me?!"

I raised an eyebrow in confusion, "I'm sorry, but I already have a boyfriend. I didn't steal shit."

She threw her purse down and lunged at me but I sidestepped and she fell face-first onto the floor.

This reminds me of a similar situation.

"When are they going to learn that lunging isn't gonna work?" I whispered to Kris and he snickered. The girl got up and threw her hands at me, attempting to choke me but I took a simple step to the left and she fell again, but this time she gripped the wall.

"Jesus, psycho lady. Calm the fuck down."

You could probably guess who said that.

She screamed and took something out of her back pocket. It was...

...only a pair of scissors?

Seriously? You couldn't pack something better? A kitchen knife, or something.

She tried to stab me with it but I stepped aside and she ended up stabbing the floor.

"I just wanna eat my dinner," I groaned and Kris laughed before taking the scissors and putting them in a drawer, pulling her by the feet and dragging her out. She kept thrashing in his hold and I just let out a laugh when he dropped her feet, jumped over her, and closed the door.

"I wonder why Jesus lets psychos like her to live," he said and I answered, "Same reason he lets us."

"Touché."

I walked back to the dining room with Kris by my side and my stomach growled. I groaned, "If something interrupts my dinner one more time, I'm killing a bitch."

"Don't choose me," Kris raised his hands in surrender and I glared at him jokingly, "You're the first I would go for."

He laughed before kissing my temple and smoothening my hair.

But seriously though, if something disturbs me and my dinner, I don't care who I have to hunt down.
