Chapter Eight - Measly Threats

Friday, 26th June 2020

KRYSTALLIA

"That's about it. Can you follow through with the rules?" Kris asked and Gregory nodded, "I can."

Kris looked at Gregory before snapping his fingers and a guard walked in with an aluminum briefcase. He placed the briefcase on the desk and opened it, turning it around to show the contract.

"If you sign this, you confirm with all the terms and conditions for this alliance. If you break one rule, the Crystal Undead has the right to break off the contract. Do you understand?"

"Yes."

Kris snapped his fingers again and the guard handed Gregory a pen.

"Sign it at your own time."

Gregory held the pen and reread the contract a few times before signing his name. The guard took the pen and contract, handing the paper to Kris for him to read. He placed the contract in the briefcase and the guard took the case out of the room.

KT and I watched Kris patiently as he crossed his leg over the other and twirled a pen around his fingers. He always analyzed the person we allied with after signing to see how they react.

For now, Gregory seemed calm and collected. Kris leaned back into the chair and the pen continued to swivel.

The room was silent for a while before Gregory broke it.

"I think it's time," he said, starting to get uncomfortable. Kris raised an eyebrow, "Time for what?"

"For you...to leave."

"Why would you want us out so quickly? We've made the alliance and we won't be able to hurt you."

Gregory shifted in his chair, "But um, I'd assume you have other things you would need to attend to. Just like Miss Estrada said," he gazed at me, "Your time is precious."

Kris hummed in response and placed the pen back down before standing up and adjusting his tie. KT and I got up with the files and Kris stretched a hand out to Gregory, "The Crystal Undead will be looking forward to working with you."

"Likewise, Mr. Estrada."

Kris motioned for us to go ahead and we did, but my ears perked up to listen to what they were talking about.

"You're known for throwing out girls after using them. I won't let my sister walk into your trap. Don't talk to her, don't look at her, don't have any sort of contact with her. If I hear you so much as breathe the same air as her, I won't hesitate to slice your head clean off, feed them to your gang before I kill them. Understood?"

Jesus, Kris threatened him good.

"Y-Yes, sir."

We heard footsteps behind us and before we knew it, we were standing in the elevator.

"That was cool," I said, smiling at Kris and he kissed my forehead, "Just measly threats."

"We could tell," KT added, chuckling. He and Kris fist-bumped, laughing a little.

I stared at the full-length mirror in my dress. It was a pastel purple off the shoulder dress that flowed into an A-line with layers of mesh and paired black heels with ankle straps to it. My makeup was simple enough to be presentable but not bare. I lightly curled my hair and clipped two tendrils from the sides of my face to the back.

I heard a knock on the door and walked out of the closet to open it. Kris stood on the other side in his black three-piece suit, holding a black magnetic box.

"You look beautiful, kitty," he complimented, smiling and I smiled back. I opened the door wider for him to enter and he did, pulling me behind him.

"I'm glad I knew you enough to know what colored dress you'll go for," he said and I was about to question when he opened the lid and I stared at the contents in the box.

Sitting on the cushioned black silk, there was a satin pastel purple hair bow with two ribbons attached to it. The center of the bow had a golden sunflower pendant on it.

"Mom wore it when she went to a gala. She looked beautiful with it, and she would want you to wear it too," Kris said and my jaw dropped a little. Would she really want me to wear it?

I felt a warm tingle on the side of my face, only to notice that Kris had cupped my cheek in his hands.

"Don't overthink it, kitty. Turn around, let me put it on you."

I did and he took the clip off before replacing it with the hair bow. He turned me back around and looked at me, "Perfect."

I gave him a bright smile and he smiled back, taking hold of my hand, "It's time."

I nodded and followed him out of my room and down the stairs.

As we descended the marble steps, I saw KT, Mark, and Zach conversing as they waited for us. KT was wearing a navy blue three-piece suit, Mark wore a burgundy tuxedo, and Zach was in a grey suit with a pastel purple tie.

"There you both are," KT said, looking at us as we got off the last step. Kris let go of my hand before glancing behind me and nodding. An arm wrapped around my waist and I turned to see Zach with a crooked smile.

I adjusted his tie and kissed his cheek, "You look nice."

He was caught off guard by the sudden compliment and widened his smile, "You look gorgeous."

"Thanks."

We heard a cough and turned to look at Kris who had an eyebrow raised, "We're going to be late."

Zach and I exchanged glances before laughing silently and following the three out the door. We got in the SUV and the driver started heading towards the destination.

On the way, my phone rang from my purse and I fished it out to see Sam's contact on the screen. I accepted the call and placed the phone by my ear.

"Hey, Sa-"

"AHHHHHHHHH!"

I took the phone away from my ear as his shrill scream came out. I heard him suck in a breath before going again. After what seemed like a minute of waiting for him to calm down, I slowly put the phone by my ear again.

"Are you done?"

"Yes. Now, turn on the fucking camera and show me your dress."

I rolled my eyes and switched the voice call to video before extending my arm and showing him the dress I was wearing.

"Holy shit! Dad, look how pretty Krystie is!"

I saw Mr. Phillips show up on the screen. He was still laying on the hospital bed but he looked healthy.

"You look great, sweetheart," he said and I gave him a smile, "Thanks, Mr. Phillips."

"It's Richard, sweets. No 'Mr. Phillips'," he furrowed his eyebrows and I smiled sheepishly, "Sorry, Richard, I forgot."

"Can you believe that's my PNC, dad?" Sam asked him and he squinted at his son, "What's that?"

"Partner in crime."

"Then yes, I can. You're both troublemakers to the extreme," he said and Sam laughed.

It's nice to have them laughing like this. It makes the ride to the gala more bearable.
