Chapter Twenty-Two - Kristopher Marcellus Estrada

KRYSTALLIA

He didn't tell me.

He kept saying it's nothing that I need to worry about.

But what normal thing can cause that fight between them? As a matter of fact, they rarely fight. So it must be something big to cause that.

It's now almost dinner time and I was in the ground floor living room watching a random Netflix show I put on. Zach told me he was a little busy and would come down when dinner was ready.

I got comfortable on the couch, putting my feet on the cushion and my knees up to my chest.

Until I heard something break.

On instinct, I jumped over the couch and ran to the dining room where I thought the glass was broken, and saw Kris and KT arguing. There were a few broken plates on the floor and I stepped over them, walking towards Kris.

I wrapped my arms around his waist and he tensed up under my touch but relaxed after he saw it was me. He put an arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer, "Kitten, you shouldn't be here."

"I heard something break and came to check. You two were fighting again. What if someone got hurt?"

He kissed my head and rubbed my side, "We won't get hurt, kitten. You can't stand around sharp things. Let me bring you outside."

He picked me up over the shards of plates before putting me down. I turned around to see KT nudging his head towards me and saw Kris throw a glare at him.

What the hell is going on?

Kris then came and held my hand, leading me out of the dining room and into the open kitchen. He placed me on the island stool and turned around to make something for me.

"Kris, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure, kitten," he said and I blurted out, "Why'd you break the plates? You never get physical outside of the gang."

He stiffened and I raised an eyebrow but he couldn't see it. I heard a spoon lightly hit a glass multiple times before he turned around and held the glass in front of me, "Your favorite."

I took it and drank the tea slowly. Kris leaned back on the counter opposite me, placing his hands on the marble countertop and crossing one ankle over the other.

"It's complicated. Something happened and I got mad. That's all, kitten."

Well, that was...very vague.

"What was the 'something'?"

He shook his head, "Nothing you need to be concerned about."

"But what if I want to know-"

"Kitten," he warned and I pouted, sipping on my tea. I heard him sigh before taking a step towards me and leaning on the island, standing next to me, "I'm handling it, alright kitten? It's not something you need to be worried about."

I nodded and he tucked a few strands of hair behind my ear. A thought suddenly came to me and I turned my head to ask, "I'm not going to be homeschooled, right?"

He looked down, deep in thoughts before smiling, even though it looked a little forced, "No. I got you a leave for today. You can head back to class tomorrow if you're feeling it."

"And Sam's going too, right?"

His face darkened at the mention of Sam's name and I bit my lip, "I'm sorry, did I..."

He shook his head and cupped my face in his hand, "No, it's not your fault. He's going too."

I nodded and pecked his cheek. He gave me a full-blown smile and ruffled my hair playfully.

Kris and I were sitting on the couch watching Don't Breathe when someone walked in.

"Diamond?"

I looked to see Zach with papers in his hand. I got up and went to him, "What're those?"

He glanced behind me and I turned to see Kris walking towards us with a grim look on his face.

"I found out," Zach said to Kris and I noticed his features darkened as he furrowed his eyebrows, "I don't..."

He handed him the papers and Kris skimmed through it, his face morphing into shock. He looked up at Zach, "How did you get this?"

"You should tell her, or I do. Last night, seeing you lock her up, it pained me to see her own brother do that. You hurt her," he explained, vaguely, and Kris inhaled a sharp breath.

"You can't make me do this."

"You'll kill her if you hide it."

Kris crumpled the papers in his hand before reaching to his back and pulling out his gun, pointing it towards Zach.

"Wait, Kris, what the hell?!"

Kris briefly looked at me before staring back at Zach, "She can't know."

"But she has to."

I tried to push Kris' arm away but he wouldn't budge. I saw his finger slowly curl at the trigger and my eyes widened, "Kris, please. Look at me."

He looked at me, his gun still trained on Zach's forehead, "Kitten?"

"Don't do this. Whatever is on that paper won't change who you are to me. Just put the gun down."

Kris looked at Zach and back at me. I could see the conflict in his eyes as he struggled to choose.

After what seemed like an eternity, he slowly lowered the gun and his hold on it loosened. I took it from him and placed it on the arm of the couch.

"Kris, what're you hiding from me?" I asked and he let go of the papers in his hand. I picked it up and read through it.
