Chapter Twenty-Four - I Dare You

Monday, 20th July 2020

ZACHARY

I knew they had a secret, but I didn't expect it to be that. I wonder how Diamond is taking it.

My thoughts were broken when a knock came from my door. I got up from my chair, heading towards the door and unlocking it. I was met with bright blue eyes that belonged to my girl.

"Hey," I gave her a smile and she returned it. I moved away for her to enter and she sat on the bed, sighing. I closed the door before sitting next to her, softly speaking, "What happened?"

Her lips trembled ever so slightly, just like how she does when she's a little upset. She leaned her body into my side and I wrapped an arm around her shoulders, rubbing her side gently.

"I'm just processing everything. We had an explosion just now by the front door," she said, looking at me.

"I heard but the intercom said everything is fine...?" my voice sounded uncertain at the end of the sentence and she explained, "Kris, or Landon, his alter actually, he thought we had it under control, and we did. But we didn't expect Mark to be placed on our doorstep, with a death threat to me on his torso."

My jaw dropped slightly. A death threat? I mean, I knew we had enemies but no one really put it out there that they wanted her dead.

"What was it?" I asked worriedly and she just shrugged, "Someone says I'm not safe, and they'll end me."

The gears in my mind turned as I tried to figure out who was behind the threat. She placed a hand on my shoulder, squeezing it gently, "Don't worry too much about it, it'll be under control."

I gave her the benefit of the doubt and nodded.

I swear if somethinghappens to my Diamond, I'll cut someone up and make them into a paper peoplechain.

Diamond, Sam, and I stepped into the campus and headed straight for our lockers. Mine was a few lockers away from theirs so I quickly took the things I need before walking over to my Diamond.

"We're just gonna get through the day, and get home as soon as we can," Sam said and we both agreed. We were just about to walk Diamond to her lecture hall when clicks of someone's heels stopped us.

"Didn't think you were gonna show up."

Christ.

Diamond huffed softly, hugging her books closer to her chest, looking timid, "Tatiana, what a surprise. What would you mean by that?"

Tatiana flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder, "Oh, no. I just thought someone's brother was obsessed and was going to lock her in so she wouldn't run about."

Diamond's eyes shot up as she met Tatiana's in a challenging stare, losing all signs of apprehensiveness, "Repeat what you said, I dare you."

"Someone by the name of Kris has a problem. He was so obsessed with his sister that at one point, he wanted to lock her away. I guess he just lacked romance in his life," she sneered and Diamond's books dropped from her hold.

I held her arm lightly to let her know I was here. Diamond looked down and before we knew it, Tatiana had fallen from her heel breaking.

I caught the little ninja star that slid across the hall and under a locker.

"If you don't know what you're facing, shut that filler mouth of yours. Keep in mind, you're not spitting out saliva when you talk."

I'm damn proud I can call her mine.

Sam had picked up her books and she took them, walking away with us following next to her.

I wrapped an arm around her shoulder and she shrunk back into her shy state. Everything with Kris has drained her so much that she doesn't have enough energy to put on a confident façade.

We escorted her to the lecture hall, making sure that the professor was already inside and started to teach when Sam and I left her with a few disguised bodyguards and Ezrick.

"Yesterday must've worn her out. What happened anyway?" Sam asked as we walked towards our lecture halls.

Right, he doesn't know because Kris locked him out.

"It's just something personal. She'll tell you in her own time," I explained and he nodded, falling silent.

On the way, I thought of taking her out to dinner but with the death threat and all, I think that's the last thing we'd want, especially Kris. So going with my backup plan, I'll set up a movie marathon in my room so we could spend the night together in my bed.

I hope it'll take her mind off things for a while and just relax.

Upon reaching home, Diamond mentioned doing her assignment and headed up the stairs. I heard her room door close and sighed, getting Kris' attention, "What?"

"She needs a break, the past 48 hours haven't been easy on her," I said in a sad tone. Kris placed his phone on the small table in the middle of the foyer before hanging his head low, "This is all my fault."

I shook my head, ready to take away the blame when my phone dinged. I pulled it out and checked the notification.

"Fucking demon," I cursed under my breath and Kris looked up, his dark circles visible from this angle, "What?"

"I just have a hunch on who sent the threat," I said, slipping my phone back into my pocket. Kris looked back down, deep in thought before pushing himself to stand.

"A hunch can make a lead."

He gestured for me to follow him and I did.
