"Marilla!"

I snapped my head to the side in panic. All around me people were screaming, and I wasn't able to move. The ground was rumbling and the air felt empty and cold.

"Marilla!" I looked to search for the voice, waves of fear washing over me. Then I saw her face, the woman bending over, her black hair tired in a loose bun as strands fell over her blue eyes. She was waving me over with panic in her face.

I ran over to her, getting a better view of the woman who was calling for me. she wore a white tunic decorated with silver and blue.

I was almost to her; she is so close. I reached my tiny hands out for her.

BOOM

I looked towards the noise that came from my right, noticing a ball of darkness spreading over the horizon.

"Marilla!"

I opened my eyes to see the calming waves roll onto the shore in front of me. I sat on the sand crossing my legs, after trying to meditate.

Meditating had become something Isaac had added to my training, he felt a lot of my power I had locked away, in memories I didn't remember. He believed meditating would help.

I let out a sigh of frustration and looked at the sky, watching the glittering lights above. Six years of meditating every day, and that was all I could uncover, a woman screaming my name, and then darkness.

The same sort of darkness that I saw when I was with Malaki in the bar. He was definitely there, and from what Isaac has told me, he killed a lot of Mermaids.

Isaac was an Enchanter, hired by my mother. Enchanters were responsible for looking over royal families. And After the Genocide, he continued to take responsibility for me. He had been training me to protect myself, without me even realizing it.

Now we had brought Max and I onto this island, trained us further, and still, we couldn't beat Malaki. How could we? Malaki seemed invincible.

I looked at my hand and twirled my finger, but I had had him. In the bar, when my water trailed around his neck, I could have killed him.

"Mar?" I heard Max behind, I turned my head slowly, seeing that he was back to being human. He stood over me, his toned chest bare, exposing his muscular arms. His shaggy hair fell over his face in the wind, but I could still see his green eyes.

"Did I interrupt you?" He asked tilting his head, examining my position on the sand.

I shook my head, "No, don't think I'm going to be able to focus anymore." I moved lifting my one knee up and sliding my other foot under it, getting into a more comfortable position.

Max sat next to me, stretching his legs out. I turned to smile at him, but his eyes were narrowed while he examined my face. He brought his hand up to where I had hit my head earlier. His thumb brushed over it, looking for a wound.

"All healed." I said reassuringly.

"I would prefer we just kept ocean water in vials" He said shaking his head.

I had the ability to heal myself and others with ocean water.

"It has to be fresh; it can't be trapped." I said taking his hand that was on my face. I brought it down next to me, letting it go, but our fingers still touched.

We sat in silence for a while as I felt the tension between us grow. I hoped Maxwell wouldn't choose this moment to make another move, but as I sat quietly, he spoke.

"Marilla." He said calmly.

Shit.

I looked at him, noticing how his face was now looking at mine, he looked troubled. I knew this face, it was the face he gave before we got into a fight about how he has feelings for me, and I would explain that he's just lonely, and I'm just the closest option.
