"We going?" Maxwell said awkwardly.
Malaki continued forward and we followed close behind. We were greeted with more Guards.
But swiftly and skillfully we would cut them down. We began working perfectly as a team.
I shot out walls of shields whenever I saw a slight opening behind either Malaki or Maxwell. If Maxwell or I were left exposed Malaki would fly forward and protect us. It felt like a perfect choregraphed dance. No blades touched us.
I wrapped one Fae with water around his face, and began to drown him, when Malaki stepped in and stabbed him through the chest.
He looked over at me with what seemed to be a warning. "Death, not torture." He reminded me.
I was slightly started at the realization that there was that line I would need to figure out how to control. I nodded at him though. Drowning was a terrible way to go, and these men were just doing what they were told.
We continued our way through several more guards. I did not try to drown any other Guards.
Malaki pulled his sword out of one of the last remaining guards between here and Lenora's bedroom. We managed to kill the last few without making any sounds.
We reached Lenora's bedroom doors, arched doors painted black, and decorated with golden swirls and suns. This was where Lenora would use Malaki. I was not sure if I wanted to go in.
But I did not have a choice, Malaki pushed the doors open, and strode in. He did not seem to care if she saw us, or about stealth.
But as we stood in that room It didn't take us long to realize the room was empty. It was draped in red and black silks. The bed a massive terrifying masterpiece of black mahogany and more silk. Carpets warmed the cold tiles, but large gothic archways led to a balcony facing towards the ocean.
Waves were crashing violently against the towers of cliffs and rocks that stood outside, just beyond that ward.
I realized Malakai was looking at me. "She is supposed to be here." He looked worried, worried that I would think he was setting us up in a trap.
But I didn't. I nodded towards him and continued searching around us, looking for a secret passageway that maybe aided in an escape.
We all split up taking different sections of the room. Malaki walked in the room, seeming to sense what may be hiding in the shadows. His eyes narrowed as he looked over the room.
The air was completely silent.
"Maybe she left?" Maxwell Shrugged.
Malaki shook his head, "She loves this castle too much, she would not leave it."
I turned my attention back to the bookshelf in front of me. I thought maybe some secret passageway would be activated by a book. So I began pulling each one out. I felt ridiculous while doing it.
Blue and Brown eyes popped in front of me, causing me to jump back.
"Boo." She threw her fist into my face, sending me across the room with the amount of force she used. I hit the wall behind me with a solid thud. I looked up to where she had been a second ago but she was gone.
Malaki rushed over to me, and was helping me to my feet. I did not dare touch the wetness that formed in the back of my skull. I knew I had hit that wall hard enough for it to cause some serious damage.
Malaki seemed to notice though. His eyes examined my skull and his nostrils began to flare. He turned to protect me, placing his arm out in front of me.
