We both begin singing in unison, "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Dad, happy birthday to you!" Callie and I stand at the end of Mom and Dad's bed, holding out a little blueberry muffin with a blue-striped candle in it. Mom rolls over after turning on the bedside lamp. They both give us a big smile and sit up against the bed frame. We walk around the bed for Dad to blow the candle out.
His sleepy voice sounds funny but he manages to say, "Aww, thank you so much, both of you. The only fault to this surprise is that I already have all that I need right in this room." Mom, Callie, and I begin to laugh. Dad can be very cheesy.
"Oh shut up and just blow out the darn candle, you sap!" Mom slaps his arm. He leans in and blows out the candle, then hugs us both.
