Mom finishes pulling my hair back into a low bun, "You wanna see?"
I nod and she guides me to my bathroom. We look into the long mirror that stretches from the floor to the ceiling. I'm wearing a black, knee-length dress. The bottom is loose and has a floral pattern on it. The sweetheart neck has the same pattern. I'm wearing ruby red heels to match my outfit, they also highlight the muscles in my calves and thighs. My hair is pulled away from my face, only a few strands of hair outline it. I don't look like myself, I look so fancy. I feel beautiful, who would've thought this to be happening.
"You know what you need?" Mom walks out and returns to me holding a necklace. She stands behind me to put it around my neck and hook it. It is a simple silver chain with a ruby teardrop dangling from it. The accessory is so simple, yet it adds so much potential.
"Jo!" Dad yells up the stairs, his voice barely reaching my room, "Your date is here!"
"Go get em' tiger, but no later than midnight. At midnight, you return to your home, okay?" Mom kisses my forehead before I walk downstairs.
Dallas is in a black suit and a floral bow tie. He looks amazing, even more so than usual. In his hand is a rose, which he hands me. "Thank you, Dal," I hand mom the rose to put in a vase when she comes towards us.
He smiles, "You look extraordinary, Jo."
"As do you."
We laugh but stop when dad starts to talk, "You guys know the rule. No later than midnight, but have a good time!" I hug both mom and dad before Dallas leads me to his awaiting vehicle. Tonight is Valentine's Night and the first time I'll be going on a date on Valentine's Day. This is a good day.
