The coach's whistle blows as the girls race back and forth in the pool. Bodies cut through the water, their heads bobbing up and down. I don't know how they are able to do this. I'm watching the girls varsity swim team practice and figuring out the best ways to photograph them without getting too many blurry pictures. The air smells strongly of chlorine and I'm trying not to focus on the way it irritates my head.
"Sizemore, how's it going?" The coach yells over to me from the side of the pool. I focus the lens one last time and take a shot of one of the girls swimming. Her name is Luna. Outside of swimming and school, she's kind of a mystery to everyone. It's a rumor that every weekend she goes to a new town, closer and closer to the state border but Luna has always come back to Fieldton High. She always has these crazy stories to tell everyone about from her excursions when she returns to school after her trips. A lot of boys in just about every grade have had, or do have, a crush on her. She's beautiful, the way her eyebrows are arched, her head is held high and her lips are always poised. Her dark eyes are framed by her raven black hair. On top of her beauty and curvaceousness, her personality is confident, carefree, and fun. She moved here when she was younger, but she's always held onto her Brazilian accent. Oddly enough, I kind of look up to her. She is the kind of girl I would want to be if I didn't have all this anxiety.
I look at the last shot I took. Good enough. I'll have to go through them later and delete all the bad ones, so I can submit the best quality for yearbook. I walk to around the pool to show the coach and a her face paints a grin, "Good job, Sizemore. I'm excited to see the shots you get of the event next week."
I smile, "Thank you, Coach."
