Ring..ring..ring.. "Hal's Animal Clinic, how can I be of service for you today?" A man spoke into the phone, his voice sounding raspy.

I clear my throat and fold the tab from the flier in half nervously. "Hi, my name is Jodie Sizemore. I saw a flier a few days ago that had a volunteering ad with your clinic's information attached."

"Oh yeah, one second. I'm gonna put you on hold while I go and find my clipboard." Before I can respond, music starts playing. I listen closely to the familiar tune, I think I've heard it once before in French.

I nervously play with the now wadded up paper on the desk in the study. I look around at the bookshelves as I spin in the chair. Anxiously, I begin to tap my leg rapidly. Making calls to strangers is definitely not one of my specialties. Another minute passes when the music stops and the man begins to speak again, "Alright, sorry 'bout that. What's your name again?"

"Jodie Sizemore."

The sound of a pen clicking and writing fills the background, "And what school do you go to?"

I take a few seconds to try to remember the name of the school. Why is this so difficult for me? I legit go there. After milliseconds, I remember, "Fieldton High. I was hoping my friend could join me?"

The man immediately responds, "Alright, just come on down tomorrow Thursday at 4:30 to get started, does that work for you? And bring your friend too."

I smile to myself, "Uh, yeah! That works for us, thank you so much, sir."

"No problem, see you then."

After the man hands up, I do a little dance in the rotating chair that I sit in and pump my fists. Now the hard part is taken care of. All that's left now is actually starting, and telling Dante that we get to do this.
