Y/N POV
First period, Chemistry, what a joyous way to start off Valentine's Day I thought with bitter sarcasm. Mr. Wallace's voice explaining something about balancing equations faded in and out and as my thoughts drifted to Hayes. Wondering what we were going to do to celebrate this day but also why he hasn't texted me yet. He'll text Y/N just relax, I kept telling myself. My leg bounced anxiously as the minutes all too slowly passed; I sat there, glancing at the clock constantly, waiting for that damn bell to ring so I could see my boyfriend in the free period we had together. Finally, the bell rang and I sprang out of my seat, ignoring my teacher's calls about the homework due Monday. Weaving through the chaos of students in the halls, I made my way to the cafeteria to meet Hayes in our usual spot near a pillar at the bottom of the stairs. I stood there, scanning the flood of kids coming in and out of the large room until finally, those gorgeous blue eyes met mine. I smiled as he walked towards me and greeted me with a quick peck on the lips. "So, do you have something planned for tonight?" I asked him, hinting at maybe a special Valentine's Day dinner or even just a nice movie to celebrate.
"No I didn't really have anything planned, why do you want to do something?"
"Hayes, don't you know what today is?"
"Uh, Friday?" And that was it, he forgot. I wasn't one to make a huge deal about Valentine's Day, but it was the first time I actually had someone to spend it with, and I wanted it to be special.
"Y-yeah, it's just Friday..." I trailed off.
"Babe, is everything okay?" He looked at me concerned.
"Fine, I'm okay don't worry." I smiled at him, although it wasn't the most genuine. I tried to act normally. How could I though? My first real Valentine's Day and my boyfriend doesn't remember. I didn't expect much, even just a 'Hey babe Happy Valentine's Day!' But I got nothing. School dragged on, after my free period. I had to go to math, then after math it was my language class, then came english. They all lagged on to what felt like no end and actually paying attention in any of them was just not happening for me. All I wanted was to go home. Last period came and went slowly just like the others, and after 45 long minutes I was on the bus home. I kept my headphones in, allowing the music to bring me some solace. The second I walked into my house I went straight to me room. I changed into my comfiest pajama pants and curled up in bed with my computer. I hated feeling sorry for myself but Valentine's Day was about spending the day with the one you love, and the one I loved was clueless about it. I pull Expelled up on Netflix, hoping the comedy would make me feel a bit better. Once the movie finished I checked my phone to see several missed texts from Hayes asking where I was, if I was upset, and to text him back- none of which I felt like responding to. Both my parents were still at work so I spent the evening lounging around, trying to cure myself of my boredom and sadness. I sat on the couch, a mug of steaming tea in one hand, the TV remote in the other. I flipped through the channels aimlessly, trying to avoid the endless amount of romance movies. I finally settled on some random movie from the hallmark channel, considering the fact that the romances were practically unavoidable. Halfway into the sappy movie my doorbell rang. I walked to the door, not caring about my unpresentable appearance. I was shocked to see who was standing there before me, a bouquet of roses in hand. "Hayes? What are you doing here?"
"Y/N I'm so sorry, I can't believe I forgot." Boy, did I want to be upset, but looking at him with those adorable pleading eyes, I couldn't be.
"It's okay Hayes, what made you remember?"
"Nash," he chuckled, "let's just say he made me realize how much of an idiot I was, quite forcefully." I laughed and wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him into the tight hug I had been craving all day, along with the scent of his cologne that I could never get enough of. "Now, go get dressed, something nice!"
"What do you mean nice? Like a dress nice? Or just some jeans and a blouse nice?"
"Just look nice you dork!"
"Hey I just want to dress appropriately!" He pushed me towards the direction of my room urging me to be quick, but not before placing a kiss on my cheek. I ran to my room, deciding on a black skater skirt and stockings, paired with a burgundy long sleeved crop top and ankle boots, trying to match Hayes' level of formality with his dress shirt and nice pants. I sprayed on his favorite perfume and the necklace he got me for my last birthday, and quickly touched up my makeup before heading back to meet him. I put the roses in a vase in my room.
"You look beautiful." he complimented before planting a kiss on my lips at last.
"So, where are we going?"
"That's for me to know, and you to find out." I rolled my eyes and interlaced our fingers as we walked into town. We arrived at a beautiful restaurant, the lights were dim and soft music was playing in the background. "Reservation for two, under Grier please." Hayes told the host.
"Right this way Mr. Grier." the host guided us to a small table in the back, and wished us a lovely evening and a Happy Valentine's Day. My eyes drifted throughout the restaurant, taking in the lovely atmosphere and smiling at all the happy couples, so happy to now be one of them. After we ate and ordered dessert Hayes said, "There is one more thing I still need to give you." he pulled a small box out of his pocket and handed it to me. I opened it slowly and grinned from ear to ear and what was inside. A bracelet: a silver chain with a heart charm with the simple words, 'I love you'engraved in them.
"Hayes, it's so beautiful, thank you!" He reached over and took my hand in his.
"Y/N I love you so much, I'm so sorry about earlier, you mean the world to me."
"I love you too Hayes, thank you for this, it's been amazing."
"Happy Valentines Day baby."
