Next Course

Jesse's POV 

Everyone got on the plan quicker then expected. From Wyz we have learnt the next guard should be checking up on us in five minutes and should have keys, with luck. In an unfortunate way, we are lucky Wyz has been stuck in this dimension for a few years because this gives us a fighting chance. 

We all jumped, hearing the sound footsteps getting louder. We looked to Zane, giving him a nod and the plan started. I know this will be a struggle for him but it's the only way I think we can fool the guard. Zane allowed his body to go limp in the chains, trying to give the impression he fainted from the struggle and the shock of the chains. 

We all watched as the guard walked in, an intimating glare looking over us as he walked over to Zane. He smirked lifting Zane by the chin, giving slaps to the cheek,. thrilled he finally got Zane to give up. The guard pulled the keys out, unlocking the chains, Zane falling to the floor with a heavy thud. Syrus winced, trying to not get upset at seeing his brother in pain, knowing it's all part of the plan. Zane lay motionless on the floor as the guard turned to our cell, using another key to open it up. "If i can break your friend," He smirked. "I can break any of you." 

He leant forward, grabbing Alexis' by the collar, causing her to scream. "Oh yeah," I smirked myself pointing behind him. "I think we can break you first." 

The guard turned only to be met in the face with a book being swung by Zane. The guard dropped Alexis and Zane scrounged for the keys. "That hurt like hell," Zane rubbed the back of his neck, throwing me the keys. "Wyz, you think you can lead us to the throne room?" 

"Throne room?" Atticus questioned raising a brow. 

"Bad guys with a castle," Zane laughed. "There's always a throne room." 

I nodded, that actually makes sense. We quickly gathered ourselves, and locked the guard in the room as we left. I turned to Wyz, kneeling down to him. "This Shadow guy, why is he doing all this and is there a way we can fight him?" 

Wyz sighed, jumping up so he landed in Zane's arms. "All I know is where there is light there is darkness," Wyz said sadly. "Though, based of that there is light where there is darkness."  

"So there might be something to fight the Shadow hiding in the school," Axel asked and Wyz nodded. "Well, we need an idea of where to look. Not like we know much about this shadow anyway." 

"Particularly because we had our memories erased," Alexis sighed, placing a hand on her chin. "I'm sure there is something here that might hold a clue. The Shadow, I can't say it's been mentioned in duel lore before." 

"There was one my mother used to tell me," I said sadly, all eyes turning to me. It was like everyone had realised something. I took a moment before continuing the story. "The Shadow will rise when the light is at it's weakest. When the negativity is to hard to ignore the Shadow can take over and bring darkness to all that once believed in the light." 

"That doesn't help," Chazz exclaimed. 

"Maybe it does," Zane stated. " Jess, if Jay has darkness and negativity in his heart, maybe you are the one to bring back the positivity to his heart." 

I just looked at him confused. "I'm a bit lost," I said. 

"You and Jay really are a pair," Jim exclaimed. "Maybe because Jay's allowed the negativity in, he needs you to bring the positivity, the memories of the good times back in." 

Wait I understand now! If I can make Jay remember the good times, it might break the curse the darkness has on him. "I'll get Jesse to Jaden," Zane said, determination in his voice. 

"Not on your own," Jim piped up. 

"He's right," Bastion agreed. "The next course of action is for Zane, Jim and Axel to get Jesse to Jaden to break the curse the Shadow has on him." 

"The rest of us will search for a way to destroy the Shadow once and for all," Alexis proclaimed. 

"Thanks guys," I smiled.
