My Whirlwind High School Romance

Morning

Jesse's PoV

Why's it so dark? I can't see. Whose there? Jaden, he's walking in front of me, all I can see is his back. Jay, wait for me please! I reached out my hand, Jaden being consumed by darkness! Jaden! Don't leave!

I woke up gasping. Sweat dripping off my brow, tears pricking my eyes. What was that? A nightmare? I looked around, fortunately Jaden was sleeping soundly next to me. I reached out touching his back. He's the real thing. I continued to look and saw Ruby wasn't around. I stood up, trying to make sure I didn't wake anyone else up. I noticed the empty space next to Alexis, no Emiko either. I decided to wonder upstairs, maybe trying and get a drink. When I made it into the kitchen I noticed Minami up and on her laptop. "Good morning," she greeted not looking away from her screen. "Did you have a nightmare?"

I nodded as I sat opposite her on the kitchen island. Michelle brought me a cup of coffee and some milk before heading back to the stove. "Sorry about the nightmare," Minami spoke. "Due to the high Duel energy in this house I should have warned you about it."

"Excuse me," Minami closed her laptop and removed the glasses she was wearing.

"You have a special power Jesse," her smile was softer now. "One that's not unlike my sister and Jaden's. You however, I can't work out what you have to do with all this."

"If I'm honest," I sighed looking into my cup. "I don't know either. What I do know is I need to protect Jaden with all my heart."

"That's good to know," I felt Minami left my chin, my eyes meeting hers. "You need to also take care of yourself as well. Whatever this thing is wants not only Jaden but you as well."

"But everyone who seems to be involved had something to do with the incident at Kaiba land, I wasn't there," I explained.

"Then tell me a little about yourself," Minami asked, "around the time you started to see spirits maybe?" 

I thought for a moment. When did I start to see spirits, but also how much does Minami know? I took a deep breathe before answering, "it was just after my mother died. Ruby appeared to me at first, I'd not long had the crystal beast deck but this was the first time a spirit showed itself to me. Ruby made me feel happy again, almost felt like my mom was telling me she was watching over me by sending me Ruby and the others."

Minami looked as if she was about to cry. "I'm sorry for making you Share that with me Jesse."

"No it's okay," I insisted. "I haven't even told this to Jaden but I guess the subject didn't come up."

"I guess it doesn't need to sometimes," Minami wiped a tear from her cheek before moving herself to stand next to me. She offered me her hand and took me to the window. She pointed over to an area and my eyes followed. It was Emiko
Leaning over the side of the hot tub, splashing Ruby and Kuriboh with the water. They were having fun. "That's what I want to protect Jesse," she sighed. "That smile right there. Emiko lost her ability to see duel spirits for the longest time after that incident. Only recently has she been able to see them again. Although her own spirit seems to be hiding. I think that's why Ruby likes her so much. She feels like she's filling a hole in her heart. Jesse, the people most precious to us are also the people that can hurt us the most."

I think I knew what she meant. We can work as hard as we can to protect someone but sometimes we push that person away. Lost in thought, I was suddenly brought out of it by arms wrapping them around me. "Morning," I heard Jaden Say. I turned around and kissed his forehead. Looking up I noticed Everyone else was up also. "Morning Guys," I laughed. 

Jaden grabbed my hand and dragged me outside, everyone else following suit. "Emiko, " he called waving her over.

Emiko wrapped the blanket she had over her shoulders tighter before running to us. "Morning everyone," she smiled as us .

Alexis grabbed her hand and pulled her into a hug. "What's going on?" I asked.

"Well we thought this would be the more appropriate and cooler way to make a promise," Jaden answered as the sun started to rise. "Jesse. We all
Promise that from now on, we will work together to beat the enemy!"

"We promise." Everyone chimed. I looked and watched as the sun rose. Tears started to creep into my eyes. "Well all watch out for each other," Alexis added.

"And make sure we're happy,"
Jim said.

"Well keep each other strong," Axel said.

"And make each other laugh," Atticus added.

"Most importantly," Jaden started. "Well love each other."

I looked around and saw Emiko holding on her her chest crying tears of joy. Alexis held her tighter. For the longest time, we've all been alone and now, now we've become a family.

I smiled, here in the morning sun, we all promised that together we would get through the ordeal trying to tear us apart.
