I wake up in a cage shooting up towards the ceiling. I stand up, screaming and crying out for someone to help me. Suddenly, bright light hits me, and the cage stops with a thump. I look up into the blinding light and once my eyes adjust, a group of boys looking down at me comes into view. A boy jumps down, picks me up and sets me down on the grass. I look up at him, taking in his tanned skin, light brown eyes and messy hair. He tries to introduce himself to me but I'm so frightened and overwhelmed that I jump up onto my feet. I scan the area for some sort of shelter or somewhere to get away from the boys. I quickly spot a treehouse and run over to it ignoring the shouting coming from the boys. Once I get to the top I look around, it is very green, and I can see tiny wooden houses and hammocks set up everywhere. It looks like it could be some sort of paradise until I see that we are trapped by towering walls. I close my eyes, slump to the ground of the treehouse and hum to calm me down. After a while, the boy who picked me out of the cage comes up and starts to talk to me. Once I see him appear at the top I scurry backwards to try and keep my distance from the unfamiliar boy.

"Hey, I'm Thomas. Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you. The boys and I are sorry if we scared you it's just, we haven't ever had a girl in the glade before. We're just excited that's all."

"What is this place? Why can't I remember anything?" I ask timidly.

Thomas tries to walk towards me but I shake his head so he just sits down where he was standing. He stares off into the distance and picks at his hands.

"That's normal, we all went through it. You'll get your name back in a couple of days. Do you have any other questions?" Something about him is so soothing, maybe it's his calm, understanding tone or his outstanding beauty.

"Yeah, what's the glade? You mentioned it when you first came up." Thomas looks over at me and gestures to the large stretch of green.

"This is the glade! The glade is our safe space, we eat here, sleep here and work here. I'm guessing you're wondering about the walls. Well, the walls may trap us here, but they also keep the dangers out." I stare at him open-mouthed while he answers. He laughs at my expression.

"I think you've had enough change today. I'll let Newt explain tomorrow."

I laugh at his name, "Newt! Like the lizard?"

"Yeah, I guess." He laughs back, we both smile.

"You can come and sit next to me now." I say shyly to him. Thomas stands up wipers the dust off of him and sits himself down right next to me. We sit in silence together until I start to get drowsy up in the treehouse, so Thomas takes my hand and walks me to my hammock and stands by me while I fall asleep.

When I wake up the next morning all the boys are sitting around the fire pit, Thomas waves me over and introduces me to Newt.

"Hey love, hope we didn't scare you too hard yesterday. It just shocked us because you are, you know, a girl."
