Last night went better than I imagined. Thomas loved the candlelit dinner and the stargazing but somehow, there's always something bugging me in the back of my mind that I'm not supposed to be with him. I push that thought out of my mind and wake up to the sound of birds and the sun shining. I roll over to see Thomas, but he's gone. He must have left earlier to go into the maze and didn't want to wake me, how thoughtful of him. I decide to write in my journal for a while before heading down from the treehouse.

Dear Diary,

It's been a couple of days since I last updated and a lot has been going on. Gally has stopped talking to me ever since the sleeping incident and I weirdly miss talking to him. He always has something interesting to say and I enjoy his company while Thomas is out running. I think I'll go and try to talk to him soon. We lost Alby to a griever sting and Thomas is taking it quite hard, I keep trying to tell him it's not his fault and he agrees with me, but I know that's just an act. He walks around the glade sulking and doesn't want to talk to anyone other than Minho, Newt and me. Minho is hiding something from me and I'm going to find out soon, someone's bound to let something slip.

Speak soon!

I shut the diary and walk over to my hammocks where I hide it under my spare clothes. I decide to talk to Newt about getting a job so that I can help out and maybe ask him about Minho. He's over by the garden so I walk over there and scare him from behind.

"Bloody hell Holly! You scared the clunk out of me!"

"Sorry, not sorry!" I laugh back at him, "I was wondering if I could get a job, I feel bad that I've been here for ages and I'm still not pulling my weight to help you. I can cook, garden, look after the animals but please don't make me you know... kill them. What's open?"

"I suppose Frypan could use some more help in the kitchen since he's the only full-time worker there." I squeal with excitement since that was the job I was hoping for. "You can start before dinner as Frypan already has a plan for lunch! Please don't poison us Newbie."

"You better be nice to me then!" I turn to leave when the Minho thing pops back into my head, I spin back to face Newt, "Hey Newt, what happened between Minho and Thomas? Minho said something about Thomas saving him?"

Newt sighs. "Holly I'm not sure I should be the one to share this with you. They haven't told anyone but me what happened, and it happened over a year and a half ago." He looks at me and sees the determination to find out the truth in my eyes. "You're not going to leave this alone until you know, are you?" I shake my head.

"It all started two years ago, Minho had already been here for two years and he was starting to get sick and tired of living. He stopped eating, talking and having fun. He would go our running, come back and go straight to the runner's hut and stay there until it was time to go running again. Thomas arrived and quickly became a runner, he became concerned about Minho and always kept an eye on him. One day in the maze Minho just stopped moving, he stood there mumbling about how he was fed up and didn't want to live anymore. The doors were close to closing and Thomas stayed with him talking to him, trying to convince him that we all needed him and that he couldn't die. In the end, Minho came to his senses and Tommy practically dragged him out of the maze. Since then Minho and Thomas have been inseparable and best friends. I like to consider Minho, Thomas and myself as the golden trio."

I sit there open-mouthed. "Oh my god, no wonder they are always together. Is Minho okay now?"

"He is good now, he has the odd rough day but who here doesn't?" He pats my shoulder, "Remember that this isn't common knowledge so don't be spreading it around yeah?!"

"I won't, see you later Newt!" I wave and then walk away feeling overwhelmed. I go over to my hammock for a nap and on the way, I see Gally. I wave and smile at him, but he just looks away and ignores me. My heart drops. Why is Gally still ignoring me? I brush it off and climb into my hammock and take a nap.

I'm woken by Chuck shouting at me that lunch is ready. I sit up and walk over to the kitchen and can smell bacon. I sit down on the grass and I'm handed a buttered roll with a couple of pieces of bacon, yummy! We all eat our food hungrily and silently and then slowly one by one, the crowd disperses, and the boys go back off to their job. I wander off to Chuck's secret hideout. On the way I smile at Gally who just scowls and walks away, I stand still for a second trying to work out whether I have done anything wrong to him. I realise that I haven't so continue to walk over to the secret spot, sit down and start to carve a figure like Chuck taught me. I'm there for a lot longer than I thought and when I realise, I rush to the kitchen to talk to Frypan about how I can help in the kitchen tonight. We start making dinner. I suggested that we should have a salad as we had a big meal for lunch (big for the glade). I chop up the veg while Frypan makes his special secret sauce and drinks for everybody. After a lot of chopping, the salad is made, and we serve it to everyone who thank us and dig in. I sit next to Newt and Thomas and we chat about how everyone's day was.

After dinner, we have a little bonfire, dance and chat. Everyone gets a little drunk on Gally's special drink and I feel a little sick, so I drunkenly stumble back to my hammock and fall asleep as soon as my head touches the pillow.

Author's Note:

Oooh, some juicy background information about Minho and Thomas. Who would have expected that? I did but I already knew what was coming lol! Sorry about the short chapter but I will make up for it in the next chapter.
