Next Day
"They are still letting you run? You broke the rules going in the maze after Minho." I shout at Thomas, "I thought you were being punished! You can't go back, I know you are a runner but it's too dangerous!"
"I know it's dangerous Hols, but I need to go, I want to. It'll help Minho and the rest of the boys, after all, no one wants to be a runner after what happened to one of the runners, Henry." He explains calmly to me.
"Wait, what happened to Henry?"
"He got stung, unfortunately, he died last night before we could save him." He says with his head down. I place my hand on his cheek and turn his head around to face me. "You know that wasn't your fault Thomas, you went into the maze to help him.
I'm sure he appreciated you trying." I say comfortingly.
"Yeah, thanks Holly." He sits on my hammock and grabs a hold of my diary, "Ooh what's this Holly? Been writing in the journal I gave you? Anything about me?"
"Give me that right now mister!" I stand up to try and grab it from him, but he gets off the hammock and puts it up high and starts to read it aloud.
"Dear diary," he smirks, "Thomas kissed me today, he carried me away from our truth or dare game and kissed me! It was perfect! When we kiss it feels like a million fireworks are set off. I can't wait to kiss him again and see where our relationship goes. Speak soon, Holly." He turns to face me. I look at him, my face as red as a tomato.
"You weren't ever supposed to see that. Oh, I'm so embarrassed." I try to cover my face with my hands, but Thomas takes my hands in his and places them on his shoulders and then puts his arms around my waist pulling me close.
"So, you liked our kiss then?" I nod, "Dance with me Holly." I put my head on his chest and we sway together to no music, just the sound of the birds in the glade. After swaying for a while, he spins me around and out to the side, when he spins me back, I land abruptly in front of him staring up in his eyes. He crashes his lips on mine and kisses me hard. I gasp in surprise which gives him the chance to make the kiss deeper. Our kiss is cut short when we hear Minho shouting to Thomas that it's time to go into the maze. Thomas pulls away and looks down on me with admiration.
I watch him runoff and for the first time, I pray. I pray that everything goes well in the maze and Thomas and Minho come home safe.
