Time jump about a week:
Ever since my conversation with Newt I've been keeping to myself trying to get all of my emotions sorted. Thomas keeps trying to talk to me, but I always manage to come up with an excuse to not talk to him. I get up out of my hammock and go off to Chuck's hiding place to think about what I'm going to say to Thomas. I know that I need to let him down easily because I still love him as a friend and want to keep a friendship with him. I think that he's going to be upset but he'll be understanding because I think he just wants me to be happy. While I'm thinking, Gally walks over and steps on a twig making me jump at the noise.
"Woah Gally, you scared me, I didn't even hear you come over." He chuckles and sits on a big rock next to me.
"Sorry Bambi. Are you okay? I saw you talk to Newt last week and then you just rushed away from dinner and have been avoiding all of us ever since."
"I'm fine. Except from the anxiety, the nervousness, the stress, all of these overwhelming emotions that I'm feeling." I look over to him through clouded eyes and wipe my tears away. He looks at me sadly, wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me in for a hug. I instantly feel better and hug him tightly until he laughs and tells me that he can't breathe. I let go and pull away from him slightly.
"I've been thinking about what you said, you know about needing to do what's best for me. I'm going to talk to Thomas tomorrow." Gally looks down at me hopefully.
"Talk to him about what exactly?" I slowly intertwine one of my hands into his strong hands and quietly laugh to myself at the size difference between our hands. I look up at Gally and see him staring at our clasped hands in awe.
"About ending the romantic element of our relationship. Every part of my body wants to be with you Gally, not Thomas and I was stupid to not have noticed that earlier. Over the past week, something hasn't felt right, and I've felt like I couldn't breathe properly, but all that disappeared as soon as you hugged me. You make me feel safe even when we are in this hellhole, you make this place seem like home. I like you Gally and I really hope we can grow together and start a relationship," I squeeze his hand and look into his eyes, "Well? Don't just sit there, say something!"
"After that speech I don't even know how I could top that. You caught my eye as soon as you came up in the box. You must have been scared out of your mind, but all I could see was a brave and undeniably beautiful young woman. I obviously would have wanted to be your first and only romantic relationship in the glade but the fact that you are choosing me over all the other boys and Thomas shows to me how special our bond is. I really like you Hols and I can't wait to spend every damn minute with you. I was going to wait to do this, but the moment feels right." I start to open my mouth to ask him what he is going to do when his lips crash onto mine. His touch feels like a million fireworks have gone off. I am so shocked by the electric feeling of his kiss that I just sit there for a minute until I realise what's happening and I start to kiss back. I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him closer. He places one hand on my cheek and the other one on my waist. After what feels like hours we pull away and catch our breaths.
"Wow" I let out breathlessly.
"Woah" Gally says at the same time. I giggle and stand up leaving Gally sitting on the rock.
"I'm heading to bed Gals. See you tomorrow after I talk to Thomas?"
"Yeah definitely! Hope your talk goes well Hols." He smiles at me and then watches as I walk away towards my hammock. I grab my bedclothes and creep into the bathrooms where I get changed as it's the only place where I have privacy. When I walk out of the bathroom, I get a shock when I notice that Alby is standing outside. I jump and let out a small shriek.
"Oh, sorry Holly, didn't mean to scare you. Why have you got your clothes with you?"
"Oh no problem Alby, I was just getting changed that's why. No privacy from you guys unless I get changed in there." I laugh a little but stop when I see the serious look on Alby's face.
"Right then we'll need to get that sorted. I also need to call a meeting soon about you."
"About me?"
"Yes, I've been thinking about how you are the only girl and I think we'll have to come up with some rules to keep you safe since you're here with all of these boys. I hope that's alright?"
"Yes, that sounds like a good idea. Well, I'm off to bed, night Alby." I lightly smack his shoulder and then walk to my hammock and climb in. I really hope my chat with Thomas goes well tomorrow and that Alby's rules aren't too strict. I fall asleep quite quickly and wake up to Chuck standing right beside me.
"Oh my god Chuck! You almost gave me a heart attack!"
"Sorry Holly just waking you up to make breakfast, I'm starving!" He starts to poke me, and I start to laugh.
"Alright alright I'm up Chuck. What do you want me to make for breakfast?"
"Ohhhh ummm how about French toast? I collected a shuck tonne of eggs yesterday and I heard the cows gave a lot of milk too." He looks down at me hopefully. I smile up at him and nod making him jump up and down and run off. I chuckle and head over to the kitchen where I meet Fry and we get started making breakfast. Gladers start to stumble in just as the first batch is done and we start serving breakfast, everyone is excited by the rare treat. I had hoped to talk to Thomas during breakfast, but I forgot that he had left to go running with Minho and the others. I sit outside eating my breakfast and notice that Gally keeps looking over at me. I smirk and wink at him. I think I see him stifle a laugh and then he walks away with Alby and has a conversation with him. I look around at the glade, at all the boys, my new family. Chuck is telling a story, Frypan is showing off in the kitchen, some of the boys are play fighting, Newt laughs at a joke and pats my back. I feel the happiest that I've ever felt here.
I'm home.
Oof it's been a while since I've written something for this series. I wrote the first five chapters straight after each other and then started publishing them and haven't written anything else until the day I published the fifth chapter lol.
