The shop is bright and empty. Colourful, it meets you with its shelves packed with food, mottled packaging dazzling your eyes. And you immediately lose yourself in this welcoming heaven, your hungry stomach taking matters into its own hands. And for a couple of minutes, you forget about Chan, losing him between the rows of the shelves, grabbing everything you can lay your eyes on.
You meet him later in the noodles section. He's standing there, reading labels peacefully, and for a few moments, you just stare at him, at the way he perfectly fits the surroundings,
his black hoodie reducing the saturation of the shelves. You can't help but think about doing grocery shopping with him for your own home, and this thought appears so alluring and vivid it makes you hate yourself. And, of course, he notices it, the way you stare, "What are you doing here?"
"Hmm?" You step closer, trying to hold everything you've got in your hands. Chan chuckles, glancing at you, signalling you to put everything into his half-empty basket. "It's late," he helps you out, taking a package with chocolate cookies from your hands. "What are you doing in the agency this late?"
"Needed to do some work," you shrug, adjusting the bag that had slid off your shoulder. "Was editing videos, subtitles, and stuff."
"Are you– Are you living nearby?"
"Kind of."
"Are you okay with going home alone at this time?"
His question surprises you, and you freeze for a moment, trying to come up with an answer, "I'm... Trying to be."
Chan nods, finally choosing the right noodle pack. "Okay. Then we'll eat and I'll walk you home," he throws two packages into his basket, but then stops, hesitating. "Do you want a ramen too?"
"Yes, please," you try to take one package in your hands, but Chan, being ahead of you, already throws another package into his basket. This little gesture makes you smile, and you roll your eyes annoyed. You know where it all will end if he won't stop doing these sweet things for you. "And no, "you sigh, turning away from him. "Don't worry. I'll go on my own, you need to work."
Chan chuckles, nudging you with his elbow softly, "I'm going to worry if I'll want to, you can't order me around."
"Chan!" He makes you so annoyed you can't understand how you're still able to bear him.
"Y/n," he smiles back almost sticking his tongue at you, making you almost curse under your breath. "Let's eat first!" You plead, "And then we'll see, okay?"
Chan smirks, shaking his head. It takes him one big step to get closer to you. And then another second to bend down slightly, his lips almost touching your ear in a soft whisper, "I'll walk you home, please, admit it."
"Ya!" You jump away from him, hitting his shoulder, but he just laughs, winking at you, and heads to the checkout. "Why–" you stare at his back, at the way he walks slowly, the basket with your food in his hands, and suddenly you feel so sad you're ready to cry. "Why–" you know what you want to ask the universe, and you whisper your question barely audible, hoping Chan won't hear it. "Why do I like him, but he desertlike me back?"
The truth becomes too heavy for you to bear, and you just sigh, going to the checkout too. You need to eat, that's for sure. And, maybe, it will sort something out. You hope it will.
