Chapter 29
GREYSON:
"Open the door, Grey." Jamie shouted from the other side. "Let's just talk calmly. You know, without shouting?" I didn't reply and just stuffed my face on the pillow.
Honestly , I didn't know what I said earlier. It just came bursting out of my mouth like some bullet on a gun that has been stuck in like forever. My head was going crazy and my cheeks are turning red the moment I began to process the things I said over and over again.
THEY TOOK YOU AWAY FROM ME, THAT'S WHAT!!
"Shit." I muttered, banging my head on the sidetable.
"Greyson, we need to talk." Jamie said, while knocking on the door three times. "Don't be such a baby. Be a man and talk to me, will you?"
"There's nothing to talk about." I shouted back, head still on the pillow. "Just go to school or something. Tell the teachers I'm sick."
"You are so stubborn." She muttered. I could practically imagine her shaking her head. After that conversation, I heard steps walking away the door.
It was probably for the best. I don't think I could talk to her straight in the face after saying that words. The words that she will probably think that I'm a lonesome guy who always wants attention. It wasn't my fault that this rage I'm feeling was stuck in my stomach. It wasn't my fault either that she started neglecting me the moment Dumbass Wesley became our neighbor. Or the fact that Kevin took interest in her.
But why in the world would I feel this way?
"You know, that's not really a good hiding place." I lifted my face up only to find a girl, peering on my face. She was wearing a small smirk yet her eyes were filled with concern and worry.
"Jamie?" I exclaimed, startled by the closeness of our faces. "I wasn't hiding! Wait.... How did you get in here?"
"There's this thing called spare key." She giggled, lifting the little silver key on my eye level. Darn. Way to go to save myself from embarrassment. Jamie sat down beside me, her eyes still plastered on mine. This never happened before, but I was nervous as hell.
"I'm sorry." She sighed. "I never thought you'd feel like this. Nobody's taking away anybody." I didn't respond and just burried my face on the pillow. "I'm really really sorry."
"Why didn't you wake me up earlier if you wanted to go out with Kevin?"
"Because you were sleeping." She sighed. "I can't just wake you up after that tiring night at the Crawford's house. And besides....." She paused for a moment. When I look up, I just found myself staring at her reddened cheeks. "You look like a cute puppy when you sleep."
There was a moment of silence....
"You're drifting away." I muttered as she look at me in a puzzled expression. "It's like you're running away from me---from us, I mean. You rarely go on an activity with us. And when was the last time we took Peaches on a walk?" I pushed my pillow aside and inspected her hand. "You aren't even wearing your wedding ring, anymore. "
She lets out a heavy sigh and took something out of her neck. It was like any other necklace except for the fact that there's a shiny gold ring in the middle. She smiled a little as she let me touch it's round sides.
"I don't want it to look suspicious. So I keep it hidden." She said, softly caressing my hair. "That way, I can still wear it without people noticing." She reached up for my hand to touch the gold ring upon my ring finger. "I'm sorry for neglecting you.... and Peaches. I promise I won't do that again."
