Chapter 52

"What a cool place you got here, couz." Tess lets out a low whistle and sat on the bed with a bounce. "Uncle Stan sure got an eye when it comes to houses." 

"Yup. He sure does." A yawn escaped my lips making my eyes water. "Want me to show you the guest room?" 

"Nah. Me and Mikie just stopped by to say hello." She shrugged. "Dad sent me here for business is all. Michael just tagged along." She sighs. "'Sorry to hear about the 'Father-in-law fiasco'. I just heard he lost the first trial. Hopefully, the second one will bring him luck." 

"Oh." I momentarily closed my eyes and opens them weakly. 

Tess giggled and stood up. "Aren't you gonna congratulate me?"  I gave her a look of confusion. "I'm engaged!" She squealed. 

Instead of squealing like a fangirl, I just smiled and clasped my hands together. "Wow... really?" She nodded. "Who's the lucky guy?" 

She gave me a mischievous smile and sat down on the bed with one leg on top of the other. "I'll give you a clue." She licked her lips and half-smiled. "He's someone you know, yet you wished you don't. On the outside he's sweet and gentle, but inside spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E. And he's out of your reach even though he's closer than you think." 

It just clicked...

Everything just freaking clicked...

Even though it was just a wild guess, the moment I whispered my cousin's name, his reaction gave away all the answers I needed. I didn't know what happened next after that. All I know is that I could hear my name being called from a distance. 

Tears weren't shed. My emotions went blank. Feet running went numb. My heart pounding out of my chest. I must be some kind of robot. Worse, I must be a human trapped in hell. 

This isn't a nightmare anymore.... this is chaos.

"So you ran away?" Kevin raised his eyebrow and gave me a skeptical look. "You just freaking ran away without waiting for his explanation?" 

"I don't know what to do. My emotions turned to shambles that running was the only option I needed." I back up on the corner and curled like a baby. "I mean, what would you do if you were in my position?" 

Kevin shrugged and stares at the dark water below. "I probably should've cried like a baby." He stood up, picking a pebble in the process, and threw it as hard as he could. It skipped three times before sinking. 

How crazy am I? Telling all my problems to Kevin. I should be talking with Megan right now. But due to the bumping-into-someone's-chest scene earlier, I stumbled into this Jerk. Like I was a book, he quickly understood my situation and brought me here at his secret fishing hideout.
