Inspiration
This story is inspired by the annoyance of seeing the same cliched plots involving nerdy characters. The following plotline follows
___________________________________________________________
-A nerd is in love with a girl since they were little and he's still in love with her this entire time. Fate brings them together and closer than ever before realizing they had feelings for each other all this time.
-A nerd is tired of living the same boring life and wished to be a part of the cool kids and enjoy wild parties and whatnot. He works hard to change his image so he can climb the social ladder and become one of the cool kids, however, often signing up for the drama that comes with this all the while forgetting his nerd friends that were there since day one. Sometimes, this involved pretending to be someone you're not just to have some status (Can't Buy Me Love & Love Don't Cost a Thing comes into mind)
-A nerd is part of a normal friends group (think Screech from Saved By the Bell) and he works hard to win the girl of his dreams, only to be rebuffed again and again. 2 cliched plots play out here, and it's either that said girl realizes her feelings for the nerd after many years (think Steve Urkel and Laura Winslow) or he doesn't get the girl of his dreams but finds a better connection with his female best friend who's been there his entire life
-There's also movie endings in which a character wanting to change themselves realize that it's better to just be themselves and never have to change for anyone else because the person is truly worth it will stick by you even after you've done these things.
____________________________________________________________
This story will merely tease these cliche plotlines but will offer refreshing perspectives. While writing this story, I ask myself this question.
How can one be themselves and be successful in being social and dating when being themselves is not really celebrated in high school where social status rules all when being themselves get them labelled as a geek or loser and therefore losing out on an opportunity to get the dates you really want rather than settling for the dates you can get? How can you get the dates you want without having to climb up the high school social hierarchy and potentially lose his real friends? How can you be yourself yet at the same time make yourself appealing to the type of date you do want? HOW DO YOU ATTAIN ALL OF THIS WITHOUT SUCCUMBING TO THE PRESSURES OF ALL THE HIGH SCHOOL BULLSHIT?! These are the big questions needed to be answered.
This story aims to answer these exact questions through various scenarios the main character will go through. Life as a high school nerd is already hard enough as it is, now we observe what Deva will do to cultivate an active dating lifestyle while living life as a nerd. This is Deva's lifestyle.
-He is the youngest out of everyone in his year.
-His social circle consists of his homeboys who are merely average and other nerds in his class
-A little shorter than average
-Everyone in his school gives him the status of 'uber-nerd', severely limiting his options at the school
NOTE: As Deva goes through this journey, there will be multiple scenes where it addresses certain dating situations that men deal with, pointing out important distinctions when dealing with said situations
POV
This entire story is mostly from the perspective of Deva. Since his journey is to develop and improve his dating life, he starts out as an inexperienced dater who's following the guidelines of a book to help him develop those experiences, as he doesn't know better yet and is only experimenting with what he believes he should do. So this entire story will be from a straight man's perspective mostly
Layout
I'm not one for writing down long-winded descriptions about almost everything so I've decided to take on a dialogue-driven approach and write a script instead. There are still descriptions within character actions that highlight what the characters are doing, as well as descriptions to describe what the scene feels like so it won't always be pure dialogues between characters.
NOTE: Some characters are meant to give out a certain casual vibe, so expect to see some grammatical or spelling errors in their dialogues for the sake of their character. The characters with such dialogues are Deva, Obe, Issei, Ned, Beck, Yasmine, and Elli
