Deva: Living Outside The Ladder (Complete Story)

Act 6 Scene 2

(Chucky and Deva are walking down the halls talking about something random.)

Deva: How far are you with the vacuum feature?

Chucky: It's getting there. I have to play around with the different pressures though to find the right one.

Deva: True, just make sure you don't suck the entire class with it.

Chucky: God no, I don't plan to.

(Betsy approaches from the side.)

Betsy: CHUCKY!

Chucky: (turns around and becomes immediately startled upon sight.) Oh! (shyly) Hi Betsy.

Betsy: You got a minute?

Chucky: Uh, yea. Sure!

Deva: Yo Chuck! I'll head over to my locker.

Chucky: Um, okay. (Deva exits the scene, leaving Chucky alone with Betsy. Turns to Betsy) So what did you want to talk about?

Betsy: I have a science project that is due in the next couple of days, I have an idea of what I want to do, but I just don't know how to go about it on my own. I'm afraid I'll screw it up somehow. I was wondering if you could maybe come by my house tomorrow and give me a private lesson in science.

Chucky: Do I? I would love to!

Betsy: That's great. I hope this doesn't make you too comfortable, but my friends are coming over to my house to watch some movies. You're welcome to stay if you like.

Chucky: Your friends are going to be there?

Betsy: Yeah.

Chucky: Well, that's not a problem. I'm just not used to being around people I don't know that well. No offence to your friends of course.

Betsy: None taken. If it helps, maybe you could bring a friend along with you too, that way you won't feel too lonely.

Chucky: Yeah, sure I'll bring some friends with me.

(Chucky walks over to Deva's locker.)

Chucky: Dev! You got any plans coming up tomorrow?

Deva: Nah bro. Why, what's up?

Chucky: Betsy asked me to come to her house and help her with science tomorrow.

Deva: She did? No way man! You're gonna be alone with her in another room. That's progress, my man.

Chucky: Yeah, not really though.

Deva: Why what's up?

Chucky: Her friends are going to be there. She said they had something planned together but I can stay if I want to.

Deva: Hmm. Yeah, you can't exactly do anything when her friends are around.

Chucky: Yeah, but we've hung out 1 on 1 before. It shouldn't be any different, right?

Deva: Yeah. Just make friends with these guys and if they like you enough, it'll be another step closer to Betsy at least. Actually, is Milo going to be there?

Chucky: I don't know about that. They broke up, didn't they?

Deva: Yeah, but they share mutual friends. They themselves were also friends before they started dating, so if he's going to be there, it's going to get a lot more complicated.
