Deva: Living Outside The Ladder (Complete Story)

Act 8 - Recovery Period - Scene 1

(The day seems so dim for Deva. He is sitting in his classroom one day. However, there doesn't seem to be much focus on it.)

Teacher: Deva!

Deva: Yeah?

Teacher: Can you tell me how do you find directives to an equation.

Deva: Directives?

Teacher: Yeah.

Deva: Ummm.......Bedmas?

Teacher: I thought so. Try not to get distracted in class.

Deva: Yeah, sorry.

(Everyone in Deva's class started chatting amongst themselves, shocked that the smartest kid got something wrong in class)

(The scene switches to the science class. Deva is partnered up with a pretty girl who expects him to do all his work. Deva just finished the entire thing and answered the questions on science. He didn't even pay attention to the fact that someone at school got an easy mark. Hell, he wouldn't even pay attention to the science experiment he was working on. Something was different from his usual behaviour.)

(The scene switches to the football field. Today was a big game, and everybody was sitting in the crowd watching the game. Deva checks out the hot girls and the cheerleaders that were there. However, they barely seem like an exciting sight nowadays. As the crowd stands up, cheering at the home team's touchdown, Deva stands up just to walk home. Someone approaches Deva.)

Someone: Excuse me, man, can you take a picture of me and the ladies here.

(Deva just took the camera, took a picture, gave it back, and left. As he is about to leave, he is stopped by Girl 1.)

Girl 1: Hey! My friends and I are thirsty. (seductively) Could you be a dear and get some water for us?

Deva: Listen, I got no time for your fuckery. You can get water yourself. (tries to walk away but Girl 1 stops him.)

Girl 1: Oh, but I really appreciate it if you do. You wouldn't turn down a request from lil ole me now, would you?

Elli: (taps Girl 1 shoulders) You're not helpless, princess, you can get water yourself. It's free after all.

Girl 1: (glares at Elli) Mind your business, bitch.

Elli: The only person that needs to mind their business is a piece of shit trying to take advantage of a vulnerable man's feelings for her own power-tripping game. Also nice to know you were exchanging a couple of glances with those jocks looking at us laughing. (Deva looks up to them and sees them laughing.) It seems to me you were trying to set him up for some type of humiliation.

Deva: *Goddamn! I didn't catch that. Man, I'm really off today.*

Girl 1: Who is he to you, you're boyfriend?!

Elli: (gets close to her with intimidation.) Does it matter? (Girl 1, out of fear, leaves. She looks at Deva.) You were trying to get out of here, right? (Deva nods in confusion) So, get out of here!

(Deva continues walking home with Elli watching him leave)
