Chapter 36

Ember POV

"What the hell were you doing in South Korea, and why would you be here without us?" Jin cried as they touched down on the ground, "also... What happened to that other building?"

"We kind of crashed..." Penelope quivers, "but it's not Emily's fault!"

"She was the one driving the helicopter," Serena gruffs, "it's definitely her fault."

"No," Emily defends, "it's obviously Penelope's fault. This wouldn't have happened if she never dated Yuzu in the first place."

"But he was so nice and sweet in his letters!" Penelope whines, "he told me all about the olympics and that kind of stuff!"

"It's Beverly's fault!" Serena yells, "she's the one who told us about the attack helicopter!"

"NO!" Beverly fights back, "IT'S OBVIOUSLY JIMIN'S FAULT!"

"Wait, what?" Jimin exclaims, "why me?"

"Because you aren't in love with me!" Beverly explains.

"Let's just say it was Ember's fault," Emily cuts in.

"What? Why the hell is it my fault-"

Emily shrugged, "cause... You aren't blaming anyone, and that's exactly what a guilty person does!"

I smack my hand on my forehead. Seriously?

"Yes, it's Ember's fault!" Penelope cheers.

"You too?" I groan.

"I know how you can make it up to us!" Beverly grins, "you're going to call the manager, and get him to let us be kpop stars again!"

"Can you call him for us as well?" Junk asks, "I don't want to call him. He's kind of weird."

"Yeah Ember, can you call him for us?" Suga agrees.

"Fine," I grumble, gritting my teeth. I take out my cell phone from my jacket, and I dial the manager's phone number.

The phone rings for a good couple of seconds before a familiar voice connects onto the other line. Shakily, I take up my hand to my ear, and wait for a response.

"Hello? Is this the Drunk Mosquitoes?" The manager asks.

"Erm... yes, we're sorry about running off and-"

"Oh no worries!" The manager dismisses. "I know you had to take over all those countries for the good of your career, and other kpop artists! So, will you come in later today for a rehearsal?"

"Can we go tomorrow instead..? We just got to Korea."

"Of course!" He cheerily says, "also... What about BTS?"

"They'll come tomorrow as well..."

"Okay!" He concludes, then hangs up.

"Well?" RM asks.

"We're going in for rehearsal tomorrow."

"Great!!!" Penelope cheers and kisses Suga. She drags him by the collar up the stairs and into the apartment building, away from the gathering crowd of firefighters.

Jimin and Serena give each other 'a look' and follow, leaving the rest of us at the base of the apartment building, watching the workers scramble to cart a bunch of bloody wreckage off the highway.

"Do you feel sorta guilty?" I ask tentatively.

"About what?" Emily replies, knitting her brows, "The crash? Nah, all we killed is old grannies who were gonna kick the bucket anyway."

At that moment a stretcher carrying 5 bloody, battered babies hurries past us. Emily shuffles her feet and pretends not to see the babies.

"D'you think the police'll... y'know...?"

"What? Come after us!?" Emily chuckles, "Gal, we have a whole damn attack helicopter to blow them- oh. Yeah."

"Yup," I sigh, and put down a wriggling Maple to join Blossom hunting birds in a nearby tree.

"Hey, you wanna help me rebuild the attack helicopter?" She motions the cracked metal.

"Uh... sure," I shrug, relieved at the change of topic, "Hey, Bev, you wanna help?"

"Nah," Beverly waves a hand at us. She turns almost instantly and walks inside the apartment building too, RM hurrying behind her.

I have a feeling a lot of babies will be conceived tonight - maybe enough to make up for the amount killed in the crash. J-Hope, Jin and Tae also head upstairs after them, laughing about something.

Emily and I start dragging the twisted metal parts out of each other's grasps. We discard the ruined pieces and straighten the bent ones.

"Hey, the control panels are both still okay," I call over to her from where I've wrestled the parts out of the cockpits, "Which one's in better condition?"

"That one," she declares, tramping over, "Less scratches and only a dint. The other one is missing a button."

I nod and put the less-damaged one on the pile of materials to use later, before going over to help her wrench the rotor out of the ground. We work in silence as the sun sinks and the mass of scorched and bloodstained building remnants and helicopter remnants turn into neat piles and a scarred hole.

"Hey, let's have a look over in the building wreckage," Emily suggests, "We need another propellor blade and a door and... well, a lot of stuff."

"Sure," I agree.

As we head over, I notice a dark figure, lit from behind by the glow of the apartment building, hurrying towards us over the grass. As it draws closer, I realise it's Tae.

"Hey..." he looks at me nervously, then over at Emily, then back to me, "Uh, Emily, can I speak to Ember?"

"Sure," Emily shrugs and slouches back, arms crossed across her chest, waiting.

"Like, alone," Tae shuffles his feet.

"Oooooh," Emily winks at me, "Good luck."

She saunters off, hips swinging, and her small dark figure is lost against the shadowy stack of debris.

I turn to Tae, "So, uh... what did you...?"

"Look," Tae rubs his temples, "I wanted to uh... it's okay if..."

"If... ?"

"If this is too soon," he takes a deep breath, "But... w-will... will you marry me?"

I stare at him like a dumbfounded fish out of water. Oh god, oh god, oh god. Yes? No? Yes? No? Yes? No? Yes? No? Ack. I love him, I'm sorta annoyed by him, it's too soon, it's been too long, what do I do, what do I say, how on earth do I say what I'm thinking, what even am I thinking...?

I'm not sure how long I stare at him. I've got a feeling it was an indecent amount of time.

"... y-yes."
