Chapter 18

Emily POV

Sitting inside Yuzu's house, all thirteen of us are very cramped, we sip hot drinks. I ordered a hot chocolate and cinnamon doughnut, but instead I've got some fancy Japanese drink that's actually better than hot chocolate (it's got these fancy tapioca pearls and they go pop!) and a single piece of sushi which I DO NOT LIKE. It has avocado and I detest avocado. I'm not sure how good his English is, but I'm not about to point that out.

"Uh... Yuzu..." Penelope blushes, sitting next to him at the squishy table, "I wanted to tell you something...?"

"Yes?" he hugs her briefly, then looks distracted by the ice rink outside the door.

I can't believe he has his own ice rink. I want one. But maybe first I'll try his out - I don't know if it's any good for dancing on.

"Well, I- we, sorry, came all this way..." Penelope murmurs nervously, "And I wanted to tell you... just... I love you."

"Aww," he kisses her tenderly, "I love you too..."

SO CUTE. I sorta wonder what Junk thinks of me... No, no, no, no, no, Emily! Ew, no.

"Really?" Penelope's eyes brighten, "And... well... we sorta need to leave. Not just yet," she adds quickly as Yuzu looks crestfallen, "But... in the next week or so. Look, Yuzu... will you come with us? Please!?"

"I... uh..." Yuzu stammers in thickly Japanese-accented English, "I can't. I have to train for the next Olympics..."

"But... we love each other," Penelope whines, giving him puppy eyes, "and I'm sure Emily can add an ice rink on the attack helicopter." She looks at me meaningfully.

UH WHAT? NO WAY. I CAN'T. Also I'm not bothered to make adjustments to the helicopter for the sake of your boyfriend - I legit just made it beautiful.

"Yeah, sure," I shrug, lying blatantly.

"N-no, thanks," Yuzu shakes his head, "I'm uh... scared of heights."

"Oh..." Penelope looks thoughtful, "Then... then what'd we come all this way for?"

"If you really loved me, you'd have come all this way to stay with me," he holds her hand and gazes into her eyes.

"And if you really loved me," Penelope sniffs, on the verge of tears, "You'd stop being such a sook and come with me."

"Then maybe I don't love you as much as I thought..."

Penelope gasps and sobs like crazy. Then she composes herself and whispers in my ear, "Emily, can you add a prison cell to the helicopter."

"Sure," I whisper back, "Already done it. You access it via the back of the weapons cupboard - there's a hatch. You seriously haven't noticed?" I feel genuinely offended that she didn't notice my handiwork.

"Oh... okay," Penelope chews her lip, "I didn't know we have a weapons cupboard." Ugh. SERIOUSLY!? "Can you get Yuzu in there?"

"On to it," I grin. I pull out my pistol and point it at Yuzu who's looking sorta suspicious.

"All right, bub," I grin like I've gone insane and Yuzu looks alarmed, "You're coming with me. Up!"

He stands up shakily and I march him to the attack helicopter, all the while he tries to bribe me and I'm sorta tempted although also sorta finding it funny he thinks he can bribe me. I march him down between the seats and down into the hold, towards the back with the weapons cupboard. I open it up and he blubbers harder but I just shove my pistol harder into the bottom of him ribs and I make him go through the hatch into the tiny cage that's attached to the side of the attack helicopter.

"Good boy," I coo, bopping him on the nose, then withdraw my pistol and slam and lock the hatch, "All done," I announce to a gaping Penelope.

"Is he... safe there?"

"We can let him in once we take off," I shrug.

I go take the controls and we fly off. I can hear Yuzu screaming, then it stops when Penelope lets him in and it just turns to whimpering as he slumps in his seat.

"Quiet bub," I hiss. He shuts up.

"Can we go to France?" Beverly begs.

"Ooh, yeah, that'd be fun," Penelope puts in.

"Alright." I set our course for Paris.

We fly through the afternoon, although can do anything much - Beverly's goddamn baby is a stinky waste of space. It keeps crying and doing these massive poos that splatter everywhere and jamming the gears and in general just being ugly and stinky.

It's just done another poop that hit me in the back of the head. I leap up out of the chair and prepare to smack it.

"STOP!!!" Beverly squeals, shielding the strange little blobby hobgoblin with her body, "DON'T YOU DARE!!!"

I slap her in the face and she slaps me back. I can feel my cheek is raw and red. I slap her back and she slaps me back and in the end we're having a slap fight. Then Serena comes over and joins in and we're all slapping each other.

"Stop!" Ember cries, running in and forcing us apart, "Emily, is autopilot on?"

I blink at her for a moment. Jin starts making cricket noises which don't help.

"Uh... no," I tell her as I lurch back to the controls. I look out the window and see the ground coming up faster and faster... it's a bit late to stop. At least it looks like we'll land on snow.

"HOLD ON TO YOUR HEADS!" I scream, jumping below the dashboard and curling into a ball just as the helicopter slams into the mountain side in a spray of snow.

It takes a few minutes for my head to stop ringing, then I clamber out from under the bench. I look at the map.

"Guys, it says we're in Syria."

"Great..." J-Hope mutters, rubbing his head.

"Where's Syria again?" Beverly asks.

"Dunno," I shrug. I didn't bother too much with geography in school - too busy doing military and dance training.

I climb down, out of the helicopter. The snow softened the blow, thank goodness, although it looks like one of the propeller blades hit a rock. It's bent at around... maybe a 60o angle? Might take a while to fix it. Dusk has fallen. Eh I'll just fix it tomorrow.

"Okay, guys!" I call, dancing around in the snow to keep warm, "We're gonna be staying the night! Let's make some igloos!"
