The days started to pass by slowly with no one getting anywhere. Moving farther and farther away from where they first met John and Sophia started to become closer. They helped each other out and it was not nearly as strange as it was at first. Day by day creped by and with every rise and fall of the sun and moon they were becoming friends.

"Sophia?"

"Yes Leon?"

"Where did you learn how to read?"

"I told you before."

"Yes but not fully."

"Because as I had explained before I shall not break or betray a promise."

"But neither will I."

"Why do you wish to know in the first place?" Truth be told John had only asked to get more information on Sophia. It was all apart of the angle he was playing and so far he had not gotten very far.

 "Just curious."

"Oh," silence filled the air. "I wish I could tell you," said Sophia finally.

"But you are not a betrayer... How about this, if I tell you something about myself then you have to tell me where you learned." Although Sophia knew that everything she was meant to say was supposed to be fake she has not fibbed about this. After a minute curiosity got the best of her. John had never really spoken about his life after the first day and this would be an amazing chance to see if he was still lying to her or not.

"Well..."

"What?"

"Will you tell me?"

"Oh, no."

"But why? I thought I put up a pretty good offer."

"You did but I still am going to refuse." With a sigh John turned away and continued walking a little faster than necessary ahead of Sophia. It killed Sophia to keep things from John but she had to if she wanted to keep her life. She knew that Samuel wouldn't be far away and one slip up would come back and haunt her.

"We should be stopping for water soon, the sun is already starting to set and we have not even set up camp."

"Yes, I will get the water and you start a fire."

"Alright." Walking away from John and to the stream she thought about her choice to keep John out on her secret. What if she could defy Samuel? What if she did tell John everything? Could he escape along with her? The odds still looked slim but with time and planning it could work. Kneeling down at the stream Sophia took a drink making sure to fill up the bucket as well. Just as she was finishing she felt something push hard against her back and then fell forward. With a splash she landed in the shallow stream. Before she could cry out in surprise a hand was clamped over her mouth and muffled her screams.

"If you even think about yelling out again I will kill you here and now."

Pushing his hand away Sophia responded still shocked but once she saw it was Samuel she was talking too she twisted her face into a sneer. "And then who would guide the boy back to you. You would be left without anyone to care for him and he would surely see you if I was killed."

"I would also kill him myself."

"So why dont you kill us both now then?"

"They element of surprise. Also I must avenge myself, I want him to die a slow and painful death as he begs on his knees for forgiveness. But if I must I will do it now."

"You have everything planned dont you?"

"Of course I do."

"So why are you here."

"I heard your conversation with the boy."

"What about it?"

"You tell me."

With pursed lips Sophia answered. "I was not going to say anything I shouldn't have."

"Oh weren't you? You sounded hesitant."

"Well I wouldn't. I value my life to much."

"Then why did you hesitate?"

"I was caught off guard."

'By?"

"His offer. He has never onces said anything about his past life."

"But you already know it."

"I do. But I would like to hear it from him. It shows I can trust him."

"You better not do anything you shouldn't."

"And why is that?"

"You remember what I told you before. I do not offer second chances. Keep that in mind," and with that he was gone. Sophia couldn't make her legs work to follow him. It was as if she was frozen where she was. Petrified.

After a few minutes Sophia began to shiver, remembering that she was now soaking wet she turned around, bucket in hand and made her way back to John.

"Leon?" Said Sophia faking innocent.

"What is it?" Asked John as he made his way from the trees and spotted Sophia.

"What did you do?"

"Um I...fell"

"Oh well you were gone a while. Is everything all right?"

"Yes everything is fine," she lied again.

"Well come on, I made a fire and camp."

"Thank you."

"Its fine. Are you sure everything is alright?"

"Everything is fine," said Sophia a little to fast. John raised an eyebrow not believing her. "Really I just fell."

"Well you are freezing, you should warm up and get to bed. I dont want you getting sick out here."

"Alright..."

What do you think? I know I just posted yesterday but I wanted to write more because I didn't write a lot last week. So this will make up for it. Remember to comment and give me advice on how I could make it better. I always want your input! Do you think Sophia will tell him? And what will it mean if she does?
