John had been waiting out all night. Waiting for the right moment. He knew that the men had left long ago but he was parodied. What if Samuel was there? What if he was waiting? Finally he swallowed his fears and stepped out of the darkness. The moon was full overhead so it cased down a eerie shadow. But he had to help Mary and Anabel. If not physically than at least be able to bring them to justice. Prove their innocents. John loathed Sam for everything he was. A murderer. That was also on his list. To bring Samuel to justice as well.
There used to be a boy inside of John. Happiness that went where ever he went. It was a part of him. But now it was gone, replaced by anger. Anger for his sister for being so stupid, for Samuel for being so careless, and even for himself for ever letting this happen. If he wouldn't have been so curious his mother and his sister wouldn't be dead. They would be at home, smiling and laughing and loving. Guilt is something that can never leave a person. It stays with you where ever you go. You may be strong on the outside and might have moved on but it is still there. And it was that guilt that drove him out of the solidarity of the woods. That drove him out to the pile of ashes.
But even when he did get there he found nothing. Nothing at all. It was gone- burned. He had to remember back to what Anabel had told him. She had said that all of her secrets lied beneath what once was hers. But what could that possibly mean. It all sounded like rubbish when she had told him. Although it was different now. There was more meaning to Anabel than there was before. But still what did she mean? Something that once was hers. But everything that was hers was gone!
John tried to remember back to what her house looked like yesterday. Tried to remember any clues but failed miserably. Either way he was not leaving here without something to base his location off of. So he scavenged. He walked around the edge of the woods with no luck. He looked everywhere but Anabel. It was hard for him. But he had to. That was the only place left. And the guilt was getting worse by the minute. He walked up to her until he was towering over her body. Without thinking he got down on his knees and prayed. He prayed with everything he had. He prayed for his sister he prayed for Anabel and he prayed for his mother. He prayed for everyone that was important in his life. And when he was done praying he got back up and kept looking.
He walked around the area where her body was lying, limp. Closer and closer to the house he crept until he was right up against the coal and ashes. But nestled underneath a piece of have burnt wood, was a chair. Anabel's chair. Secrets lied beneath what once was hers...
