*woof* *woof*

Chirpy looked excited as Angelica introduced him to Adelaide.

It was Adelaide's first time seeing him. Because Countess Norton was allergic to fur. So whenever the Nortons visited they made sure that they wouldn't come in contact with Chirpy.

Since it was only Adelaide visiting this time, Angelica took the chance and introduced Chirpy to her.

Adelaide turned towards Clive with a questioning face. Clive helplessly shook his head.

"Come closer Addie"

"Wait... let me process this first"

'I don't know whether I should be concerned or relieved' Adelaide started massaging her throbbing temples.

Adelaide hesitated to get closer.

Chirpy's large shiny canines weren't doing much help either. But she could not ignore Angelica looking at her earnestly.

She sat down in front of the two and nervously reached out her hand. It was her first time seeing a wild animal up close. To be honest, she felt scared.

Chirpy stared at her for a minute then slowly started walking towards her. Adelaide had her eyes closed and waited for impact.

Chirpy gently nudged his face on her hand not wanting to scare her.

On feeling a gentle touch on her hand Adelaide peeked to find the wolf looking at her. He walked closer to her and licked her cheek.

Adelaide felt a wave of emotion come onto her and started rubbing Chirpy's face.

It was like hugging a big soft pillow. She had heard of wild animals being raised as pets before. But it was her first time seeing one.

"You love him right?" Angelica asked with a warm smile.

"Yes...... I love him too" said Adelaide and continued to play with him

"But why is his name Chirpy. It's kind of weird"

"That's because he's always chirpy as a pup. He'll light you up in an instant" Angelica said with her hands on her cheeks reminiscing the past.

"You...you didn't know what to name and gave the first name that came to your mind" Adelaide said in a flat tone.

"You didn't have to be so blunt about it'' Angelica looked away avoiding Adelaide's eyes. She was spot on with her analysis.

Meanwhile, Clive has been watching everything, five steps away from them.

*Grrr*

Chirpy growled at Clive in a low voice.

Clive on the other hand was looking at him with a cold smile.

It was obvious. For an unknown reason, Clive and Chirpy never got along with each other.

Chirpy never lets Clive or any other men near Angelica when she's around him. Ever since he first met him, Chirpy wouldn't let Clive pat or touch him and always growled at him. Eventually, they turned out like this.

"Why is he being like that?" Adelaide got confused at Chirpy's behavior

There was a silent war between the two as they kept glaring at each other.

"These two hate each other" Angelica shrugged with a hopeless face.

She couldn't figure out the reason either. It was always like this ever since they were young.

"And I don't know why" she shrugged

Chirpy stood in front of Clive and revealed his sharp fangs. Clive stood still with a cold smile staring back at him. Sparks started flying between the two. They looked like they would attack each other at any minute.

Adelaide worriedly looked at Angelica.

"Don't worry both of these buffoons won't act upon it. It's always been that way" she said shaking her head. Both Clive and Chirpy flinched at her statement.

"An-An" Clive called out in a small heartbroken voice.

Chirpy walked towards Angelica with his ears and tail drooped. He tapped her hand with his paws and let out a small whiny howl. He didn't like to be addressed by her like that. Angelica felt her heart being pierced by an arrow by looking at his adorable expression.

'Why am I a buffoon' He whined.

"You're not a buffoon babe. He's the buffoon. You're my precious little babe" she said hugging him. Chirpy licked her cheek and excitedly wagged his tail.

Chirpy looked at Clive with a triumphant expression and smirked cheekily at him.

'I won' His face was screaming.

This was Chirpy's revenge for baiting him with peanut butter and getting his head stuck in the jar. Chirpy had to run around in the training ground with his head trapped. He had never felt so humiliated as the apprentice knights laughed at him. He had chased them and regained superiority after freeing his head from the jar.

Even so, the damage was done and the main culprit remained unpunished.

Clive continued smiling at him. He clenched his fists so hard that veins started popping out.

'I'll get you next time'

"That's good. So he doesn't bite" Adelaide smiled. If that was the case, she has no need to be on guard around him.

"Oh he bites alright" said Angelica blocking Chirpy. He only settled after putting his front legs on her shoulder and standing on two feet.

"When I tell him to. Isn't that right babe?" Angelica winked and planted a kiss on his forehead.

*woof*

Chirpy wagged his tail. Of course, he wouldn't let any male near her. He was her protector.

'What did I expect?' Adelaide sighed.

"Let us be on our way. Father and mother are waiting for us" Clive said looking at his pocket watch. They were late for dinner.

Angelica got up after letting go of Chirpy and Clive helped Adelaide get to her feet. They dusted off their clothes and walked towards the dining hall.

"Let's go babee"
