The butler walked in and stopped in front of the bed with his hands behind his back.
"How do you feel madam?" He asked, looking at me with a gentle expression as if treating a fragile object.
'Like dying!'
"I'm feeling better now" I replied with a light cough.
The breakdown I had earlier must have left an impression of me. To the butler, I was just some random noble lady with a delicate constitution and fragile persona.
That was a good thing and I would like to keep it that way. So that I can plan my escape without raising any suspicions.
The only advantage I have here is the element of surprise. Ruining it with fits of rage would be disadvantageous for me.
"What time is it?"
I looked around the room in search of a wall clock. But there were none, except for the paintings and art everywhere. It felt more like a prison cell than a room.
"It's almost dinner time"
Dinner? Seems like I was out for a long time.
After all, it was not an everyday occurrence to learn about your impending death.
"Before that, I have a few questions I would like you to clarify"
Ah.
Here we go again, dinner or should I say feast. It was a familiar sight. All kinds of food were placed on the dinner table and the only one sitting there was me.
But now I can understand why they were preparing luscious food for all my meals.
They were not feeding me.
They were feeding a lamb for slaughter.
Now I could not even dare to drink water here. Any of these foods or maybe all could be poisoned.
Sadly, I can understand how political leaders feel all the time.
To think I was devouring food one after another just hours ago without a clue was making me feel stupid. There was no way I was going to eat now.
"I don't have an appetite"
I stood up and peered at everybody's reaction. They were staring at me without even an ounce of expression on their faces.
"Is the food not to your liking madam?" The butler asked, appearing behind me out of thin air.
"!"
That kind of startled me.
"No. It's not that." I touched my head and acted as if it hurt.
"I'm tired and I would like to retire to bed"
I peeked to see his reaction. He had his usual butlery poker face. No matter how much I tried, I could not get a read on this man. And for some reason, it was annoying me.
"I will have your room prepared"
Then he called a maid and ordered her.
"Prepare the madam's bath"
The middle-aged maid whom I had met earlier was the head maid, Lynn. She was the one responsible for taking care of all my needs.
She led me to a bath which was already prepared. It was a different one than the bathhouse I had been to earlier.
'Are they robots?' I could not help but think by looking at the way they were functioning.
The people in the Frost Estate are meticulous to a dot.
They started with bath oils and a relaxing massage. Then added bath salts and applied what looked like a moisturizer all over me.
For obvious reasons, I felt like a marinated lamb. The massage process repeated and I started to feel drowsy again.
'And I just woke up from a long sleep'
Even when I was back home, I did not get this type of treatment. I used to take care of my needs to my best without relying on any help. However, I do plan on going with the flow till I can get a general layout of this place.
'Because this... is definitely something I can get used to'
"Wha..?"
My jaw dropped on its own.
After the therapeutic bath, I back in the dressing room looking at the nightwear laid in front of me.
"Umm.... excuse me, Miss Maid"
"Call me Lynn, Madam"
"Yeah... Lynn. Are these really my clothes?"
"Yes Madam"
I picked up the nightwear and examined it. No matter how long I looked at the nightgown, it was definitely bridal lingerie rather than proper nightwear.
It was a V-neck one-piece with ruffle details along the neckline at the front, elasticated at the back, and a pleated panel along the hemline.
And most of all, it was in a deep red shade.
"Are there any other options?" I asked Lynn, as my face began to twitch.
The maids brought in a rack of clothes.
Feeling a little skeptical, I went through the collection.
And I was right.
One did not have any straps, another had a lot of holes, and this one... was no better than a handkerchief. The rest were worse compared to the nightgown the maids chose for me.
The dress that was no different from a mosquito net and partially plausible as nightwear was the one the maids picked for me to sleep in.
"I'll just go with this one" I said awkwardly.
After I changed into them, a few younger maids blushed at my sight. But they quickly averted their eyes when I noticed them.
It was showing a lot of skin. So much so that it was even making me feel self-conscious.
'Hmmm... It's better if I put the drape on' I twirled around in front of the glass.
'Well it's not like anyone is going to see me this way'
That is what I said but...
'Why am I in the male lead's bedroom?'
"Have a good night madam"
Lynn closed the door and disappeared before I could say anything.
There was no way of escape.
I stood at the entrance of Edward's room with a blank mind. He was lying in the same position I saw when I visited him in the morning.
A handsome man in beauty sleep.
Did she just say 'Have a good night' ?!
The hell with 'good night'!
'Just what the f*ck do you expect me to do to a comatose patient!'
