"Did they mix up the mail or something and send it to the wrong address?"
Clive flipped through the pages. There was no way that it was sent to the wrong address since the messenger who delivered the letter was one of the Elite Knights from the Frost Duchy.
Clive rubbed his eyes and read the name of the said bride again just to make sure he wasn't hallucinating from the overwork.
He felt dubious since all kinds of crazy things were happening around him.
"Angelica Ashford"
The name was written in beautiful penmanship with the official seal of the Frost Duchy.
Clive put down the letter and massaged his throbbing head.
Edward Frost, the Future Archduke Frost was a prominent member of high society. Even before his debut, he was widely known for his extraordinary achievements.
He was a valiant young man with unmatched talents and aspects. Although he had a peculiar personality that was just as cold as his name. There was no point in denying his ability to attract people with charisma.
And he was handsome to boot.
All of his accomplishments lumped together turned him into one of the top eligible bachelors in Orion.
But...
That was not the reason for concern.
'Why her? And why now?'
On his recent visit to Volos, Clive learned about the unfortunate accident that happened to Edward from his master, Gilbert.
The ill-tempered Gilbert chattered away like a radio box in the presence of his favorite student.
Even though the details were confidential, Gilbert explained the cause and effect of the curse inflicted on Edward Frost. He was in a coma with the snake god 'Havu' slowly feeding on his lifeforce.
And the marriage was a call for a potential alliance.
It was a proposal for a marriage of convenience, which was common among nobles. The house of Frost will provide financial and political aid for the Ashfords in exchange for Angelica's hand in marriage.
Clive could guess that it was probably due to the war between the Frosts and Esdels.
Although the details of his accidents were not revealed to the public, it was rumored that Edward's misfortune was arranged by the Esdels.
There were chances of Count Vesser also being involved due to him being the next in line to be the Frost Heir. The rumor was fueled by the fact that he was also the lover of Nian Esdel, Marquess Esdel's sister.
Sometimes even strong people need to be protected.
Edward Frost may be the leading figure in the empire, but at the moment he was no different from a vegetable. And his position was in danger.
He needed something strong enough to anchor him until he was able to rise again. So a political marriage with a prominent household proved as a necessity.
A traditional noble family like the Ashfords, whose very roots date back to the founding of the empire was the perfect match for their purpose.
But the problem was that the Ashfords had little to no interest in the political world and did not have greed for wealth or fame.
They took pride in their upright and courageous nature, providing generations of outstanding commanders for the country in times of need.
Yet they always took a step back when it came to political power.
