TW: manipulation, mention of abuse
This is just a little like rant/headcanon that I came up with at 3 am.
So what if like ranboo and dream are siblings, right. And when they were younger they didn't live in the best house hold y'know. And their father made them wear smiley face masks as a way of manipulation. And from a young age nightmare had been protecting dream, so like one night nightmare took control of dreams body and took ranboo and him and they ran away. So years later ranboo was able to break away from the manipulation of his father, partially due to his memory issues, but dream was never able to which is why he wears a mask. And the reason he did all those things to everybody, like manipulating tommy, is because he didn't know it was wrong and thought it was normal.
