They love me they love me not
Innocent with petals
Horrifying with days
Days where love waxes and wanes more frequently than the moon does
And the reflection in the mirror taunts me
My hair my body my skin tone
The way my nose spreads wider when I smile
The features I own have been passed down
A lineage of history and culture
And I must remind myself
That it takes courage to love the parts of yourself others don't affirm as beautiful
Everyday when I wake up and I affirm myself
Even when my heart does not co-sign what my mouth says
I am courageously choosing me
And that is the essence of love
