It
took so so long to say goodbye
                              When they left
We stumbled over remarks at how quickly time passed us by
Drifted into conversations we had not enough time to explore
                              Until silence announced the inevitable
                              And even then
It took so so long to say goodbye
Words left unsaid were exchanged with glances
The kind only closeness will allow you to interpret
Until that dreadful time to say goodbye had arrived
                              This time  ignored for now
smiling faces as we ignore the goodbye
I'll see you later, au revoir
It is kinder to think of the fact that sometimes separation is not permanent
Until one day the phrase remains ever so haunting
As you stare at an ellipses on the final page and you wish  you faced the goodbye then
Until you wish you said anything more than a common phrase
That excluded the notion, the slightest idea that sometimes goodbyes are final
And the next time you say it
                              Your vision  would be blurred
Throat stung by hornets
As they slept peacefully in a satin lined coffin
And you say what you could never bear to say before
It was way to soon to say goodbye
