I have an idea for this story. But in order to use that idea, I have to kind of zoom ahead in time.Mer and Cris were now in second grade. They have added more friends to there group. Alex, George and Izzy. It was kind of funny to the teachers how their names spelled M.A.G.I.C.
Meredith stayed at the Shepherds about as much as she stayed at her own house.
Their friend group was getting bigger.
Mark, Derek, Cristina, Mer, Alex, George,
Izzy and Amelia.Everyone would always play on bikes, play games, make a picnic or just simply talk. Carolyn had scheduled a sleepover for them all. Mark, Derek, Mer and Amelia already lived there so they didn't have to pack or anything. That weekend, everyone came over. Carolyn had bought an overload of snacks and games so the kids don't get bored.
The seven and eight year olds had a blast.
Soon enough, the school year drove to an end.
They continued to repeat their yearly sleepover until 5th grade. When Seattle Elementary School merged with Mercy West Elementary School. The group met two new people, Jackson and April.
April was very bright and cheery, but they still were all best friends.
5th grade was hard for everyone. Especially Mer. Every corner she turned, she got her mother thrown in her face. Or she would get bullied by three people.
Erica Hahn.
Rose and
Liza Minick. They were constantly putting Mer down. There was a few times the Derek was able to help her because they are in different grades.
One day, they pulled her by her hair and slammed her into the locker.
The annual sleepover was coming up this Weekend. This would make the 4th one they've had.
Carolyn and Christopher built another home. It's small. But it's in the backyard. That is where they have their sleepover.
Alex, George, Izzy, Cristina, Mark, Meredith, Derek, Amelia, Jackson and April all went to the store. They bought snacks and movies. The basic essentials for a sleepover.
"Hey mom?" Meredith asked Carolyn.
She had been calling her mom for about a year now. Her mom left for Boston again and never really said anything.
"Yes sweetie?"
"Do you know where my backpack is?"
"I think you left it in the car."
"Ok. Thanks."
"Oh Meredith!"
"Yeah?"
"Did you have an encounter with those girls today?"
"Mom. It's supposed to be a fun sleepover night. Worry about me tomorrow."
"Meredith, I'm always going to worry."
"Bye mom! Everyone is waiting for me."Everyone played games, talked, hung out, watched movies and Meredith was the first one asleep.
"Look at Mer." Mark said.
"She looks cold." Derek said, covering her up.
"ooOoO" Cristina chimed in.
"Stop."Once they all fell asleep, Carolyn came in and turned out the lights.
********************
Fast forward 2 years.
********************"Meredith! Come eat. You don't want to be hungry on your first day of 7th grade!"
"Mom. I got a question."
"Hit me."
"Did.....my mother ever tell you when she would be back?"
"No. She never did." Carolyn sighed.
"Ok. Can I officially move in? I mean like I know I practically already live here but I also have my house and if my mom isn't coming back soon then I was wondering if I could live here. You don't have to. I understand, I mean, you have 5 kids with Mark. Having a 7th kid would be the best option would it? I guess not. It's ok. I'll just stay at my house. It should be easi-.""Meredith, you're rambling." Derek said, walking in.
"Oh. Sorry."
"No, it's fine sweetie. Of course you can move in.""Thank you."
"Hey Mer?"
"Yeah?"
"Can we talk?"
"Sure."Derek walks me to his room.
"If you need me, call me. Barge through my classroom and pull me out. Ok?"
"Ok."
"Ok. Let's go. The bus should be here soon."We got on the bus, and Erica Hahn was there. Of course, she decided to trip me, causing the entire bus to erupt with laughter except for Mark, Amelia, Derek and Cristina. Cristina stood up and helped me up, Derek asked if I was ok and glared at Erica, Amelia yelled at Erica and Mark may or may not have knocked the crap out of her. Got to love my friends.
When we got to school, Derek and Mark hugged me goodbye. Amelia, Cristina and I, met up with the rest of the group.
We weren't popular. We weren't not popular. But I'm only in 7th grade.
Walking up the stairs with my friends, I feel someone yank on my backpack.
