Derek's POV
It's been 2 days since Mer was in surgery. She hasn't woke up. The doctors said that her incision burst so easily because there was already so much scarred tissue and blood buildup that was causing so much pressure that the counter was just enough to burst it. They said there is a high chance of infection and that they will try to prevent it.
"Oh Mer." I squeezed her hand. Only mom was in the room.
"Ma?"
"Yes sweetie?"
"Can you go get some food from Chik-fil-a? I'm kind of tired of ham and cheese sandwiches."
"Of course."
Mom left and it was just me and Mer.
"Please Mer. Wake up. This will all be over. I don't know when, but I need you. I love you. More than as a sister. I want to be with you. Please Mer. Wake up."
I fall asleep and wait for mom to come back with the food.
"mm."
"Mer? Are you awake? Can- can you talk?"
"I- mm- Love you too."
"Huh?
"I love you too. I'll be with you."
"Wait. Seriously? Like- like like my girlfriend?! Like. For real?"
"Yes. Chill out though."
"Sorry."
"How long have I been out?"
"That doesn't matter."
"Derek."
"...Two days."
"Oh. How is everyone?"
"Scared. They don't know you're awake yet so."
"Yeah. I have a question."
"Shoot."
"Would I be weird to be scared of the bathroom counters?"
"No. No, not at all. We would understand Mer."
"Can we like....put those rubber things on the corners just to like...give me closure? I'm only worried about the counters that have corners." (Picture below.)
"It's ok. You're ok."
"It's just. The blood. Everywhere and the pain. I. It all sounds stupid and- mm. I'm sorry."
"It's ok. Are you in pain Mer?"
"Yeah."
"Rounds should start in- actually, now."
"Ok."
4 doctors come in and start talking about her case and yada yada yada. Then after, a nurse comes in and adjusted her pain meds.
"Just going to take a look Ms. Grey."
"Ok."
"Oh."
"What- what's wrong?!"
"There is an infection. It's not huge, but it's there. We will keep an eye on it, if it gets worse, it can cause complications but as of right now, we can treat it so it gets better."
"Oh. Ok." Mer said. I could see the tears forming in her eyes. She has been through too much.
"It's ok Mer."
"I know. I know it is."

Mer came home 3 days later. The infection is gone but every time you look at her, she is hunched over in pain.
