"Mer, come on. You have to get up or you won't be able to work yourself back into walking.""No."
"Mer, why are you acting like this? What's wrong?" Christopher asked.
"Mer, do you want me to tell them?"
"No."
"Then you need to."
"No."
"Mom-."
"NO! Der, you promised."
"Mom, Meredith wants-."
"Stop, Der!"
"Mer, sweetie, what is it?"
"She wants to die."
"Der!"
"What? I'm trying to help you!"
"Get out."
"Meredith-."
"GET OUT!"
The three of them walk out just to be greeted by a herd of teenagers.
"What happened? Why do you guys look upset?"
"You can't go in there. She. She wants. She uh. She wants to die."
"What?!"
"We have to talk to her. We can't just stand around doing nothing."
"Well, she doesn't want to see us."
They all stand in silence until they hear something drop.
"Mere-"
"OMG!"
Meredith was standing in the corner with a scalpel in her hand. Crying from either the physical pain or the mental pain. Probably both.
"Meri. Put the scalpel down."
"Stay away. Please, don't hurt me."
That's when everyone realized that she wasn't trying to inflict pain on herself. She was protecting herself. She was in a gaze. Flashback. Whatever it is, she is in it.
She slid down the wall to the floor.
"Mer. Mer, it's Derek. Listen, you're safe. You're ok. Give me the blade."
"Der?"
"Yea, Mer. It's me."
She dropped the scalpel and collapsed into his arms, sobbing.
"You are ok."
There was only five days until the court date and she still couldn't walk. Maybe that's what the drop was.
"It hurts."
"What hurts? Your stitches? Your stomach? Head?"
"Everything."
By now, she was rolling on the floor, clutching her stomach and squeezing her eyes in pain.
"I'm going to pick you up now, ok?"
"No. No, please. DON'T TOUCH ME!"
