Evie's POV
The sudden jerky movements was what finally woke me up.
I quickly tried to breathe in deeply but whatever was covering my head slowed my air intake.
I felt like I was going to start hyperventilating soon if I didn't get this cover off my face.
I struggled against the restraints binding my legs together and my hands behind my back, the thick rope cutting into my skin painfully.
Another crazy movement sent me rolling onto my back, something painful digging into my side and I banged my head against something hard. I let out a loud pained moan.
"Finally she's awake." I heard an unfamiliar voice speaking, sounding exasperated.
"Just in time. We're almost there." Came from a second unfamiliar voice.
Both were male.
Almost where?
Kai's POV
They were insistent that I go to the hospital.
I gave in but only if I could ride in the ambulance with Glen.
I watched silently as they tried to stabilize my brother but there were murmurs of possible spinal injury and a medical coma. I had no idea what anything they said could really mean. Then I realized I was going to have to call my father now. If he hasn't already heard about the attack, he's going to be extremely pissed off that I didn't call him right away.
I fished my phone out of my pocket carefully so as not to disturb the hole in my shoulder. One of the emt's told me to keep it as still as possible until a doctor has a chance to look at it.
Before I could unlock my screen, the phone rang, he beat me to it.
Shit.
I answered immediately, "sir." I didn't want to give him more problems than he already has now.
"What the fuck happened!? Where's Glen?! Where are you? HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN?" He voice raising higher and higher with every question.
I tried to remain calm. Try to understand things from his perspective.
"Please calm down. Glen is with me. We're on our way to the hospital but I don't know the full extent of his condition. My shoulder should be fine-"
"I don't give a flying fuck about that. Is he conscious? Put him on the phone now!"
Thank you for your concern.
I rolled my eyes at nothing in particular.
"No, he's not. They're trying to stabilize him, but I think I heard someone say something about a medical coma. Not sure what that means."
I heard a loud dramatic intake of breath over the phone.
"Okay, it's gonna be okay," I think he was speaking more to himself than to me. "Stay with him at all times. Did they get the shooter?"
"No, and I think there was more than one though. Ian stayed back with some of our other men to investigate. They'll keep me updated."
