Evie's POV

I hit the floor hard, a loud 'oof' sound escaping my chest.

I turned just in time to watch in horror as Kai and the creep started fighting. They landed on the desk which broke. I made high pitched yelp in shock and worry for Kai.

They were rolling around on the floor, until finally Kai was able to pin him down and just started punching him over and over and over. The man took a cheap shot, jabbing his finger hard into Kai's shoulder where he was shot.

"Argh. Fuck you!" He yelled out in pain, rearing back and grabbing his arm.

"Sorry, not my type." The man, now bleeding from his ear and nose, could still banter like nothing was wrong.

He sat up, kicking Kai so hard he fell back and the man scrambled to climb over him and return the punches.

This was heart breaking. I can't just sit here!

I rushed over and tried to push him off but he stretched his arm out and shoved me away, I tumbled back onto my ass.

"Stop it! Stop it!" I screamed, freaking out about how I was possibly going to get this fight to end.

"Too late, he's dying. Go sit in the corner like a good girl." He spoke each word in between punches. Kai was barely moving now.

I searched around the room frantically, looking for that gun Kai brought. I found it, hidden under one of the reading chairs and crawled over to it as fast as I could.

I've never held a gun, let alone fired one. But I can't just sit here and watch him die!

I held the gun up, my hands were shaking so badly, I was afraid I'd miss and hit Kai.

I prayed that this thing was loaded and finally pulled the trigger, accidentally dropping the gun immediately afterwards when I couldn't handle the recoil it made.

Luckily I hit him, in his arm, barely. He paused, looked down at his arm where I shot him, then looked up at me.

"Did... did you just fucking shoot me?" He asked, eyes looking manic and angry. It was the most serious expression I'd seen on his face all night.

I stepped back in fear as he stood up, Kai's unconscious body lying still on the floor.

"You're going to pay for that." He promised.

I kept backing up, until I reached the chair and quickly got behind it so it stood between us.

"I'm sorry," I started to apologize.

"No, not yet you're not. Now, you're going to watch while I destroy him, and then, I'm going to fu-"

My eyes widened in shock when I saw the knife protruding from the side of his neck. I hadn't even registered that Kai did it, until he crumbled to the floor, helplessly clutching the knife, trying to hold in his life essence and failing.

He went still after what felt like forever, his eyes looking up but not seeing anymore.

I gasped, a wave of relief washing over me when I realized it was over. Kai won.

I looked to him. His crisp white shirt was soaked in blood and sweat. His hair disheveled from the fight and haloed around his shoulders like a lions mane. He limped forward, arms outstretched, silently waiting for me to embrace him.

So I rushed him, throwing myself into his chest and sobbing again.

"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, I've never shot anyone before, I didn't know it would-" but Kai's hands rubbed my back and fingers combed through my hair, cooing me.
