"Hey Sweetheart!"As soon as I heard that deep gravelly voice, I felt a chill run through me, making me shiver a little bit.
Then I felt irritated. Like really irritated.
Looking in the direction it came from, my thoughts were confirmed.
He followed me to my job! He was just sitting there in Melanie's section, waving at me so I'd notice him. As if that would be hard to do, the man sticks out like a bull in a china shop.
Now I knew he must've been the hottie that my coworkers were fangirling over.
That's just great. Can my day get any worse?
I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves before having to go wait on him.
As soon as I got to his table though, all that patience I tried to store up for this moment evaporated immediately the second I saw his stupid grin.
"What do you want?" I hissed in annoyance.
He held up his hands defensively. "Woa, easy Sweetheart. I just came to go over those conditions you had. Oh, and I guess I'll try one of those fancy latte things people like." He shrugged his broad shoulders like the drink was an after thought.
"One latte." I bit out, not bothering to hide my annoyance.
Before I left, I rolled my eyes and went to go make his drink, openly glaring at him from behind the counter.
Brent rushed up to me, "Oh. My. Gawwd. You know him? Are you two fucking? Please tell me you are finally getting laid."
I'm not sure if I should feel offended by the way he asked that.
I shot him daggers with my glare.
"No, we are not fucking."
Not yet anyways. Maybe.
"We're just... acquaintances. Sort of."
"Well, whatever you two are, please let that man rearrange your guts. You need a good-"
I smack his arm, a little harsh but I was not used to Brent talking this way with me, it didn't happen often.
"Brent!"
He laughed and walked away to go clean dishes in the back, leaving me alone in the entire cafe with just myself and Kai.
Where did everybody go all of a sudden? I can't even use the excuse of serving other customers now. Great. Why is it that I feel trapped?
I set his cup in front of him, surprised I didn't spill any in my moment of anger and took a seat across so we were face to face.
He grinned stupidly again at me.
"Look, I already told you, we will talk after my shift ended. But I've still got like four and a half hours left." I had to look up at the clock hanging on the wall above the bathrooms to be sure.
"Eh, I know. But I got bored waiting and thought I'd check out where you work. Besides, no one's here. Sit and chat with me. Let's clear the air with those conditions of yours. There's no point in putting it off." He picked up his latte and took a sip, grimaced and decided it wasn't the drink for him.
I could feel myself starting to sweat a little. I thought I'd have more time to come up with an excuse, anything to tell myself I couldn't accept his offer.
