I was standing between Cam and this other man, I still didn't even know his name but something tells me I don't want to. But he takes a step towards me, I backed up instinctively. That made him smile again.
"Cam, why don't you leave us alone. I want to get acquainted with your friend here." He winked at me. I didn't feel flattered, but nervous, my senses on high alert. His perverse stare was getting under my skin.
I quickly turned to Cam for support.
"Please don't." I whispered despite both men being able to hear me clearly.
Cam took a tentative step towards me like he was going to protect me.
"Don't." The stranger ordered and Cam obeyed.
He actually listened to this guy?! Instead of helping me?
Cameron Banks, the guy I used to depend on and call my friend...
I'm finally seeing for the first time that Cam may never have been who I thought he was. I don't know what's kept me blind to him all these years but it's gone now. I can see what a selfish jerk he is, quite possibly the biggest piece of shit I've ever known.
I hardened my gaze, glaring at him.
"Cameron, you did this. You started this shit and are leaving me behind to deal with it again. Be a man and my friend, please? For once in all the years of our friendship, stick up for me! Help me!" I started raising my voice, tearing up from anger.
Then I heard clapping coming from behind me. I was being mocked and that made me more pissed. I spun around to glare.
"And you." I started in on him. "You must be incredibly fucking stupid if you think you can beat Kai." I folded my arms over my chest, staring at him defiantly. His eye brow quirked, stunned by my boldness but quickly wiped his expression away and smirked.
This time when he stepped closer to me I stood my ground, tilting my head up to look at him as he towered over me. I could feel my body shaking, either from exhaustion or fear but I refused to budge.
"Get out." His eyes bore into mine but he was speaking to Cameron directly.
I broke contact first when I watched the cowardly back of my friend as he ran away.
"Cam!" I shouted behind him but the man grabbed my shoulders, keeping me still. I tried to break free of his grasp.
"Let me go!" I screamed in his face. My uncomfortableness only seemed to spur him on.
He bear hugged me, crushing my body against his and brought his lips close to my ear. "I like you, like the way you struggle. I was going to kill you in front of Kai, but I think I'll keep you for a little bit. Until you're not fun anymore or till I get bored." He said, his hot breath fanning over my face.
I bent my neck back so I wasn't so close to his mouth, and screamed in his face, "fuck you!" And tried to free at least one hand to hit or punch or slap with.
He laughed. "That's the idea!" He said too eagerly. I froze, stunned.
His grin dropped and he frowned, "oh, what's the matter? I thought you were gonna fight? It's no fun if you don't fight back. Here, I'll even give you the first punch." And then he released me, taking a step back and holding his arms behind his back.
