Sleep. It's a necessity. A common occurrence in the lives of most. For some, it's found easily. For others, it takes a little more time.

I am one of the latter. An elusive light sleeper. The smallest creak or squeak of a floorboard and I'm wide awake. As if I'd never been asleep to begin with.

Fundy, as I'm gradually learning just a few weeks into our relationship, is not a light sleeper.

His nose twitches with each breath he takes, his chest rising and falling steadily beneath the thin blanket covering us both.

Last night was game night. Chess, monopoly, Cluedo. You name it. We played them all up until the early hours of the morning. So early, in fact, that we hadn't even bothered to go to bed, but slept on the living room floor, our heads cushioned by the sofa and our legs sheltered beneath the coffee table.

Pushing back the blanket enough to slip a hand out, I reach up and run the back of my fingers down Fundy's cheek, smoothing out the soft fur of his face. I giggle quietly to myself. One of the great things about having a fox for a boyfriend is that he makes the best cuddle buddy in the world. It's a wonder I'm ever able to get out of bed in the morning with him at my side, radiating warmth and softness.

A smirk growing on my lips, I lean up and plant a kiss on his twitching nose. Then one on his cheek. I begin trailing feather light kisses up the bridge of his nose and between his eyes, halting only when he begins to stir, his dark eyes fluttering like deep pools of water.

"Afternoon," I whisper, placing a final kiss on his brow before leaning back and giving him space.

"Don't stop," he mutters groggily, blinking slowly. He yawns wide, flashing white teeth, then slumps sideways, resting his head on my shoulder. "More kisses please."

"You're cute when you're sleepy." I hum.

"Only when I'm sleepy?"

I smile, rubbing my cheek against the top of his head. "Yes."

Fundy pulls away with a grumble and squints at me, his muzzle showing a frown. "You were supposed to say I'm always cute."

"Was I?"

My smile cracks into a grin as Fundy forms the closest thing to a pout he can manage. "Fine then, I guess I'll just go be not-cute somewhere else." He folds the blanket back and makes to stand up.

I laugh, wrapping my arms around his waist before he can gain any height and drag him back beneath the blanket. "But I thought you wanted more kisses?" I tease, nuzzling his neck.

"Mmmm," Fundy purses his lips, refusing to meet my eyes. He's playing the wounded animal card. Pretending to be hurt so I'll lay on the love even harder. He knows I can't resist.

"You know I was only teasing. You're always cute." I press a kiss into his neck, "and sweet," I kiss his cheek, "and adorable," I kiss the hollow of his ear. "And the coolest boyfriend ever."

This has him finally perk up, his ears swivelling.

"You think I'm cool?"

"The coolest," I grin, my arms looping around his neck as I place one final, hard kiss on his lips. He groans lowly and falls back to the floor, taking me with him as we continue the kiss, his arms reaching up to wrap tightly around me, pressing me flat to his chest.

"I think you're pretty cool too," he says, nudging his nose affectionately into my cheek. I giggle, tipping my head to the side as he begins to pepper my skin with his own little kisses.

"Your tail's wagging," I comment offhandedly, taking notice of the heavy thudding beneath the tangled blanket.

"That's because you make me happy."

I smile and rest my head against his chest, listening to the loud thrumming of his heartbeat through his shirt. "I seriously can't get enough of you." I sigh happily, letting my hands creep up his sides and past his neck. They take ahold of his pointed ears and rub circles into the dark fur.

Fundy's eyes flutter and he tilts his head, letting out a low, animalistic whine. "Mmmm, do the left one a little more."

"Like this?"

Keeping my hands on his ears I pull myself up into a sitting position, straddling his torso as I give him the ear scritches of a century. His tail wags harder, his hands dragging down my back.

And then a cat jumps onto his chest, flicking its tail in my face.

"Boots!" Fundy exclaims, agitated by the cat's rude interruption.

Laughing lightly, I scoop the brown and white cat into my arms, cradling it like a baby.

"Aw, Bootsy. What's the matter? Did we forget to feed you? Are you hungry?"

At the mention of food, Fundy's two other cats, Mittens and Socks, make an appearance, yowling loudly for attention.

"I'm going to go feed them," I say, leaning forward to peck Fundy's nose before standing and walking off towards the kitchen. As I walk I hear Fundy call out, "what about me?!"

"There's plenty of kibble for all of you!" I call back, grinning wickedly.

There's a moment of silence, and then the shuffling of blankets followed by quick footsteps heading straight for me.

"No! I was joking! I'm sorry!" I squeal giddily, sidestepping Fundy's arms just in time.
