the rest of the day went by pretty smoothly, you insisted on taking ai out for icecream, you knew you needed to eat anyways.

mom still wasn't home, nor did she call or text. you were still plenty tired, so as soon as you got home you tucked ai in and went to bed, hoping not to have any more nightmares.

"BIG SISSSS! YOUR FRIENDS AT THE DOOR FOR YOU!"

you groaned as you were awoken by the yells of your sister, standing up and looking in the mirror. you figured you didn't have time to change, but you never slept in pajamas anyways, you were still in day clothes. quickly brushing through your hair, you slipped on your shoes and walked down stairs.

"i'm going out, k? be safe, don't let anyone inside, and call me if you need anything."

"i will! have fun big sis! love you!"

you smiled, walking out to see miya playing on a switch.

"hello!"

"ah, took you long enough, c'mon before we miss the bus."

you watched him play mario kart as you walked to the bus stop, occasionally pulling him away so he didn't run into anything. when you were on the bus, he agreed to let you play, and challenged you to a race.

you totally kicked his ass.

"oh shut up! my remote turned off in the middle!"

"BOTH of our remotes turned off in the middle, dumbass! you just don't want to admit defeat! don't be a sore loser miya!"

"there's nothing to admit! i'm not a sore loser!"

"there is to-"

"SHH"

in the middle of your argument, you were hushed by an old man who was glaring at you. he looked to scary to talk back to, so you just quickly apologized before sending miya a glare.

you tried to keep your arguments to a low for the rest of the ride.

after you got off the bus, miya lead you to a random bench in the middle of a busy sidewalk.

then, a (sketchy) man in a grey sweatshirt with sunglasses walked by, and miya did some sort of symbol with his hand.

"did you just do a gang sign?"

he didn't answer, as the man walked by he handed miya something, before miya handed it to you.

looking down, it was a fancy-looking sticker that said "s" on it.

"hm? what does the s stand for?"

"that's  what the race is called."

"what a shitty name."

he snorted before agreeing, then turned beginning to walk towards the way you had came from.

"i'll pick you up at like, 11:30 okay?"

you and miya were standing outside your apartment, the sticker in your hand.

"alright, text me when your on your way, k?"

"kk, see you then."

you waved before walking into your apartment, looking down at the sticker again.

"ai? i'm back!"

the rest of the day was generally uneventful, you played some board games with ai, made her some snacks, and scrolled on social media.

around 11:15, you got a text from miya tell you he was on his way.

you pulled out some clothes that seemed like they'd make you fit in at an illegal skating race. you know, the usual.

you got dressed pretty quickly, ai was already tucked in.

you left a note on the counter, just incase she had woken up when you were gone.

there was a knock on the door, so you quickly went to get it, walking out.

"wow, catboy attire again? i'm just gonna have to start calling you catboy from now on."

he rolled his eyes, flustered, before muttering a quick "whatever follow me."

the walk wasn't too quiet, you occasionally pointed to star patterns that you thought were pretty. it was certainly strange, being led to an illegal race in an abandoned mine by a guy you met, like, a week ago. but hey, cheers to trying new things. the walk wasn't too far, as you came up to the opening, miya showed a man his pin, before motioning for you to show your sticker. you lifted your hand, which had said item stuck on the back of it. the man nodded and let you in. it was littered with skaters and bikers, you certainly felt out of place. you had gotten there before his opponent, who, by the way, you still didn't know the name of. it only took a minutes for the bluenette to show up, no sign of the red head. or a skateboard.

you were going to walk away from the starting line, but miya told you to hold on, refusing to tell you why.

"showing up with no skateboard? are you mocking me? how disgusting."

"i didn't forget it, it's being made."

suddenly, there was the redhead, a board in hand, panting.

"reki!"

alright, well you know one of there names now. that's always a plus.

"sorry i'm so late! here's your board!"

"using a board for the first time during a race? power of friendship? talk about embarrassing. anyways, i decided what to wager."

you just stood there awkwardly, not really sure what to do.

"if i win, you'll become my dog!"

you deadpanned, miya hadn't even been pointing towarde his opponent, instead at reki.

"DOG? WHY ARE YOU POINTING AT ME?!"

reki didn't seem to want to be a dog.

wonder if he's potty trained.

i mean, there wasn't too much of a difference between men and dogs anyways.

"your precious friend will become a dog because of you!"

miya laughed before continuing.

"oh, and in the unlikely event that you win,"

he paused, then pointed at you.

"she'll be your dog or cat or whatever. how's that?"

now, everyone's eyes were on you. there were murmors in the crowd, talking about who you might be.

you weren't quite sure what to say, at least now you knew why miya insisted on you staying at the starting line with him.

feeling the need to say something, since everyones' eyes were on you, you panicked and said the first thing that came to mind.

"...um.. bark bark?"
