the rest of the bus ride was moderately quiet, the occasionaly whisper-shout of ai pointing out random things she saw out the window. finally, the bus came to a stop and you, miya, and ai got off.

"i'll walk you to the daycare, then we can go to the skate shop."

you were a bit taken aback by his idea, figuring he'd want to do his own thing.

"oh, thank goodness. i needed a man to walk with me."

he rolled his eyes and turned away, you figured he was annoyed, but really, he was just flustered at the use of the word "man".

it didn't take too long to get to the daycare, maybe 10 minutes.

you stepped inside, smiling at the lady at the front desk. miss amane? you thought that was her name at least.

"ah, l/n-san! are you here to drop off your brother?"

your grip on ai's hand tightened as you tried your best not to look annoyed.

"sister. please don't make that mistake again."

"ah, sure, my apologies. you can go ahead and send them into the play room."

you furrowed your eyebrows at the use of the word "them". why was it so hard for people to have common sense?

"go ahead, ai. call me if you need anything."

"okay! bye bye y/n!"

she hugged you before walking into the playroom.

"k, we can go now, miya."

he nodded before turning to leave, you shot the lady one last glare before leaving.

"what's that look for?"

"hm? what look?"

"you seem angry."

you smiled.

"nothing, just hate people."

"fair enough. the skate shops this way,"

he pointed to the left before turning and continuing,

"it's called dope sketch, i assume you haven't heard of it."

"you'd be right!"

"figures"

you, once again, walked in silence, but this time, you just had to ask.

"hey miya? why are you so insistant on not having friends?"

he stared at you for a second, before turning forward.

"i'm not insistant on it. besides, you don't have any friends either, no?"

"that's why we should be friends!"

his eyes flickered to you, before he slightly down turned his head, looking at the sidewalk in front of him.

"you'll just leave like the rest of them. it's not worth it."

you weren't really able to make out what he said, all you heard was "it's not worth it."

"..what?"

"nothing, forget it."

you were confused, but figured it was better not to pry. so, you settled for the silence.

this walk was longer, you thought at least. checking your phone as you got to the shop, 15 minutes. it felt a lot longer.

miya opened the door, as you chose to stand (quite awkwardly) behind him.

"hello welcome to-"

the voice was cut off by a gasp.

"y-you're miya chinen! japanese national hopeful!"

oh.

oh

no wonder he didn't want friends, he probably had enough fans.

moving so you were actually inside the store, you stared and the three people there.

a redhead, with firey eyes and a headband.

a? bluehead? who knows, with icey eyes, who was extremely pale.

and an older man, who you assumed was the owner or manager.

and, honorable mention, a fennec fox, who had a very judging look.

how cute.

"oh- hey- weren't you in the news?"

this time, the redhead was looking at you.

news?

oh, right, probably from one of you "miracles". apparently you had survived some pretty unsurvivable things.

"uh- i'm? in a lot of things?"

you stuttered out.

wow, good answer y/n.

you had blocked the rest of the noise out, too focused on what the hell you just said. you shook your head, looking back in front of you.

miya was standing in front of the blue-haired boy, asking him if he accepted the challenge, which he did.

the redhead and the manager seemed to not support this decision, but he didn't seem to care. miya held the fox as he told them he would think of the wager, then he put the fox down and walked out, not even glancing at you.

"oh- uh! it was nice making your acquaintance!"

you had practically yelled at them, before stumbling out of the store, trying to catch up with miya.

which you did! eventually. man, he was fast walker.

"oh hey, when's the race? and why did you ask if i could keep a secret earlier?"

he didn't look at you, just staring at his phone.

"the race is this saturday, at midnight."

"wait? so friday night? or sunday morning?"

"sunday morning, i guess."

"why would you race so late?"

"that's part of the secret. on saturday you'll have to come with me to get a pass to get into the race."

"a pass? what is this, an illegal race or something?"

you were kidding.

so why didn't he answer.

"w-why aren't you answering? is it really?!?"

he stopped walking and turned to you.

"don't tell anyone. swear?"

"hey, i don't care! laws are for pussies anyways! i just never took you for the criminal type."

you smirked, but he just rolled his eyes and kept walking.

"do you live down here or are you gonna take the bus with me?"

"i'll take the bus with you."

this time, the walk wasn't silent, you did your best to make small talk. turns out you had some similar interests, like video games and anime.

he seemed to enjoy arguing about which genre of anime was better.

you enjoyer how flustered he got when you offered to put your minecraft bed next to his.

you continued talking all the way until you had gotten back to your apartment complex. you noticed your mom still wasn't back.

"alright, this is my stop. lets play minecraft later, k?"

"yeah sure, if i have time."

you punched him on the arm before walking towards the entrance.

"make time, asshole."

miya already knew he didn't have any plans.

miya also knew that he didn't need to take the bus to get to his house.
