he was pretty much the only person you knew. well, you didn't know him per se, but you knew his name. you made eye contact, but quickly looked away. you were never a big fan of eye contact.
you continued reading your book, while he sat a few tables away. you noticed he pulled out a text book, nerd. you almost giggled at your own joke, but you didn't really want to disturb him. you heard him open his bento box, as well as him occasionally shuffling around. you didn't really care, you kept your eyes glued to your book, worried you'd made eye contact again.
"why are you here?"
you slightly jumped at the sudden voice, turning, chinen-san had been standing at the edge of the table, a weird look on his face. it almost seemed like a mixture of anger and concern, which you couldn't understand why he'd feel either. you were never too good at reading people, so you just assumed you were wrong.
"am i... not allowed to be here?"
he furrowed his eyebrows.
his eyes were green. you had just realized.
"you weren't paying any attention in class, hell, you didn't even realize when class ended!"
he paused, the negative look on his face changed to a snarky smirk. you weren't sure if it was better or worse than his last face.
"in fact, i'm surprised you even know how to read."
you just stared at him, a bit taken aback, but you quickly regained composure.
"ah, you're right! it's a real shame they don't sell picture books here, huh."
his smirk faded, almost as if he was angry you weren't offended.
you turned back to your book, expecting him to leave. but he didn't, he seemed to be studying you.
"why are you here, chinen-san?"
"i was studying. we have a test coming up in algebra. i doubt you knew that."
"hm, you're right, i didn't know that!"
"you should pay more attention then, l/n-san. you may be a slime, but you're going to be a homeless slime if you fail school."
"slime? i'm offended, chinen-san! and what makes you think i'm failing?"
"i was trying to offend you. and it's written all over you. besides, you're absent so often i'm surprised you're even still in school."
"hmm you noticed? my my, you must be keeping a close eye on me! should i be expecting a confession letter?"
you didn't take your eyes off your book, a slight smirk forming on your face every once in a while.
"ghn- no! what are you saying, idiot slime?!! we had classes together before you got your schedule changed!"
you looked up at him, his face was red, you supposed it was from your last comment.
"you were? i hadn't realized."
he shot you a glare before turning around, walking back to his seat.

the two young teenagers didn't say anything else to each other, continuing to read their books in silence. soon, the bell went off, ending lunch. chinen picked up his stuff, quickly leaving, while y/n returned the book to the shelf, taking a mental note of what page she had left off on.
{~~time-skip~~}
the rest of the day was rather uneventful for the young girl, she couldn't help but worry about the tutoring session. she wasn't sure who the tutor was, nor if she'd be able to get away with not paying attention. she went through the rest of her classes, and was now on her way to the library. she had already retrieved her backpack. she, again, twiddled with her fingers. finally, she was outside the library. she took a deep breath.
it's just a tutoring session. i'm sure they're nice. what am i so worried about?
she opened the door to the library, trying not to seem like a complete total wreck.
ah, the two young teenagers meet again.
this was not going as planned.
