"Well I don't know about you but I'm full. That was a really great meal, Beth. Thank you," Ellie said.
"I'm glad you liked it. How was school?"
Beth took Ellie's along with her plate back to the sink.
"Okay."
"Just okay?"
"Yeah. I mean. It's school. There's nothing interesting to report."
"Well, what I remember about when I was in school was what my friends did. That, Jesse kid seems like he's okay. And is it Dina?"
"Yeah. They are constantly flirting with each other. They're how you and Joel are. Gross."
"I'm gonna remember that when some guy starts flirting with you. And you better believe I'll be there to tease you about it."
"Sure you will. Hey, Beth. I was wondering."
"About what?"
"You uh, you know that girl, Cat. Catherine?"
After washing a plate, she dried her hands and turned to look at Ellie.
"The one that you're always sitting next to during lunch."
"Yeah. Her."
"What about her?"
"She uh...she was...well she asked if I wanted to go to movie night on Saturday."
"Oh that's nice. Are you asking permission to go?"
"Well yeah. Cause...I mean I know Saturdays are our movie nights here. I just don't want you or Joel thinking that I forgot or anything."
"Look at you being all considerate and stuff. Yes you can go. It's only natural that you'd want to hang out with people your age and not a couple of old geezers like us."
"Thanks, Beth. Will Joel be okay with it, though?"
"Don't worry about Joel. He'll understand. If not I'll make him understand."
"Yeah?"
"Definitely."
"Okay then. Um I should get back to my place. I've got some studying to do."
"Joel will be so happy to hear that coming from you."
"Don't tell him. He'd just make a big deal about it."
"Which is exactly why I'm gonna be telling him about it."
"You enjoy seeing me uncomfortable don't you?"
"It really is the highlight of my day."
Ellie chuckled lightly. She really admired Beth's sense of humor. Any tense situation and she'd lighten the mood almost instantly.
