The sunrise didn't last that long. As slow as it came, the clouds quickly made sure to cover it back up again. Beth inhaled deeply.
"You think we'll see a snow storm today?" she asked, looking over at Tommy.
"It's hard to say. There are times where Mother Nature likes to mess with us."
"Yeah. That she does. Shall we start our route before she decides to step in a little earlier?"
"I think that would be best. Let's get on it."
The two of them finished the little breakfast they had left and got back on their horses. It was obvious that the temperature had dropped while they were in the lodge.
"Shit. We probably should have saved some of the coffee," Tommy said.
"It would have been cold had we waited any longer. If the temperature gets any lower, we'll have to find another place to hole up in."
"Hopefully that's not before we reach the lookout."
"Don't jinx us, Tommy."
"Okay. I won't say anything else about it."
The two of them continued on quietly for a bit. She then chuckled softly. Tommy noticed.
"What's so funny?"
"I was just remembering that time Joel and I had to take you home from that party that you got crazy wasted at."
He stopped and started to think.
"Wasn't that the party where you and Joel fought?"
"It was but looking back on it...if we hadn't fought back then, we would have never gotten together."
"Shut up. You would have."
"Maybe. Maybe not. Anyway, I thought of that randomly but I can't help but find it funny that you won't go near any sort of alcohol now."
"I was traumatized, Bethy. And you're laughing about that? Wow. I never thought I'd live to see the day Beth Logan completely disregarded her sweet side."
"Shut up. And nobody has called me Beth Logan in a long time. It feels very foreign to me. I've gotten so used to Miller."
"I liked your maiden name. How come you didn't hyphenate it? Logan-Miller. Miller-Logan sounds like some brand of beer."
She laughed lightly.
"That's so true. And I guess...I never really thought about it. But now that I am, it would have been nice to have kept my dad's last name."
"Would he have allowed you to though?"
She sighed as she remembered her father.
"I don't think it would have mattered. So long as I was happy."
