Ugh, I'm really starting to hate coming back to this place.
Wasn't I here already not too long ago?
The worst part of it all was...
"Hey~ Been a minute! How ya been?" god spoke in his usual tone.
"Ugh, what do you have to say this time?" I asked.
"Oh~, getting straight to business I see! I like it!" he spoke enthusiastically.
"I'll be direct with you this time. There's been a new development on the bad guy I reincarnated."
He explained that he had mixed up the souls of the people who would become the hero and some sort of villager D as he called it.
this villager soul was supposed to be an evil soul that would go through a cleansing process and allow him to become a better person.
The person who was supposed to become the hero, was an incredibly upright man who was fit to become a hero (figures) and live as an epic and noble man who repelled one crisis after another that would befall the kingdom.
Unfortunately, this shitty god likes to half-ass things.
Seriously, who let this guy manage a whole planet?
"To put things into perspective, let me show you this." He said as he snapped his fingers.
Two distinct holograms projecting two different globes appeared floating and rotating in mid-air.
god pointed towards the one on my left first.
"This is the world of ten million years. Your current world." He explained.
It looked normal enough, a giant green ocean and four continents that seemed to touch the corners of each other almost.
Then he pointed to the other globe.
It was completely black, as if nothing existed at all.
"This is the world in a year." god spoke.
A year?
Oh, god, a year.
"Are you serious? The world is that screwed in so short a time!?" I shouted.
"Yep~ Sorry~" The shitty god confirmed.
"Ugh, this all your fault, why don't you fix this mess!" I screamed.
"Because I can't, godly rules and all that. I'm only allowed to mess with certain things, and a world crisis is not bad enough to give me authority to make drastic changes to things I've already done. It'd be like undoing changes on a picture in photoshop and then making new ones over top them, except tearing apart the fabric of reality levels of dangerous." He explained.
"Then, what can you do about it?" I asked.
"I can't do anything, but you can!" He said.
"No way, can't you find one of the other reincarnated to go and do it?" I objected.
I thought he'd say something, but he remained silent.
Not this again.
"What are you not telling me?" I asked.
"Nothing~" He said, whistling away.
"Spit it out." I said as sternly as possible.
"Hmph, why are you so rude to me and so nice to that girl of yours!?" He complained.
"Because, first of all, she's my wife. and second of all, she hasn't nearly gotten me killed." I explained.
"I think the real reason is because she's pretty, so you just treat her better! That's it, isn't it!" He shouted.
"'Course not. I love her for more than her looks, you on the other hand, there's no love there." I said, coldly.
"Hmph." He snorted.
"I'll be honest then. Out of all the reincarnated individuals I've had the pleasure of going over, only two of them had enough karma to keep their memories intact, and that was you and the would be hero. The rest have no memories of their past life, why do you think I talk with you only despite how poorly you treat me? You're the only one who I can talk to." He explained.
I sighed.
I wasn't going to fall for his obvious sympathy tactic, but I was still depressed about the reason why I hadn't run into other reincarnated individuals yet, it's because they didn't have memories of their previous selves.
"Then, I guess it really is up to me, then?" I said, defeated.
"Yep." god said.
"What do I need to do?" I asked.
"Become a god." He said casually.
"Are you serious right now?" I asked.
"I'm always serious!" He answered.
"No, there's got to be another way. I already have a long lifespan, I don't want to live in eternity like, like, well like you." I replied.
"There is no other way. And if you hate it that much, then I guess I could pull some strings and let that lady of yours live with you. We can work out the terms of your godhood later. Right now, we need you to go and power level like hell." He explained.
"I can't leave right now, Aster is pregnant and has about a month left to give birth." I said.
"I know, cute kids, tell one of them that their uncle ~~~~~~~~~~ god says high!" He said.
"Uh, what?" I asked, confused.
"Nothing." He responded, waving his hand away in a "Forget about it" gesture.
"So, I can't go right away, but I can leave after she's safely given birth." I explained.
"Fine. But if the world dies because you were one second late to becoming a god on time, then don't blame me." He said.
"Alright." I agreed.
I had to become a god, what an incredibly heavy responsibility.
Most people would probably be excited by hearing this, but all I felt was deep regret.
I'd probably have to say goodbye to the peaceful life I've had with Aster now.
I didn't believe that shitty god would keep his promise, and if he did he would probably just half-ass it like always.
I sighed as I thought about the choice before me.
Do I go against god's wishes and let the world be destroyed, to stay and live with my loved one?
Or do I go ahead with his plan and potentially give up the life I'm enjoying right now?
It was a decision I probably couldn't make on my own.
