Chapter 23: goodbye

Akeelah's POV

"Cy," I whispered. "That Zianna Girl was right," I said, trying not to cry.

He let go of me, he glared at me. 

"Are you saying that should've just let you go?!" He's brows furrowed.

"After the things I did just for you, you're letting me go this easy?!" He yelled.

"I owe you a lot Cy and I'm guilty of being part of your life..." I looked down, crying. "I love you so much Cy, I just don't want you to have a bad relationship with your family just because of this."

"Come on love, you know I can make this work for us!" He begged down on his knees. 

"Cy, I just want the best for you." I smiled, bitterly. "But I think it's best to just let you go now," I said sobbing. It was painful saying that.

"Akeelah..no!" He gripped my hands tight.

I held his chin up, "But maybe someday we would meet again..."

He stood up and hugged me tight, it made me cry more, seeing him in pain is like knives stabbing me. But I think it's better off  this way.

"It's time to let you go now, my love," I whispered on his ear.

I looked at him for the last time, I wish I could stay, I wish it didn't last. I pushed him away and ran off.

_FEW MONTHS LATER_

It's been a while since the day we split and maybe it was for the good of us. I also stopped the investigation about the school I didn't want to disturb Cyryll's fam anymore.

It's already our graduation ceremony. I'm class Valedictorian, I pictured my graduation the happiest day of my life, but their was still something missing, someone maybe...

I looked at myself in the mirror, wearing a toga. I've been through a lot, but I made it! 

"Sweetie?" Ella knocked on the door. "Are you ready? Let's go!"

"Uh just a sec!" I took out the necklace Cyryll gave me and wore it. It was special for me.

I went outside and my dad was holding a box of tissues. I raised a brow at him

"I might cry," my dad said, laughing.

"I'm sure your mom is proud of you, sweetie!" Ella hugged me. Akira was looking up trying not to cry.

"Well I'm not crying!" Akira defended. 

"What are we waiting for let's go!" I shouted.

_FEW HOURS LATER

I stood up in the front to give my speech, " First and foremost I would like to congratulate all of you for passing. This isn't the ending, yet this is a begining of our future. I know some of us have been through a lot. And I'm proud to say, We did it! I also wanna thank my family, friends and the person I love, Thank you for being their when I needed you the most. And once again, Congratulations to all!" I smiled.

_FEW MINUTES LATER_

Alice, Diane and I took some pictures together. 

"My baby, is now a lawyer!" I looked behind to see dad talking a picture of me and my besties. I felt so happy! Mom I did it!

I hope you're proud of me...

"Hey what's with that face?" Diane asked. 

"I'm just happy," I said, smiling.

"You sure?" She looked on the opposite side. It made me turned my head, I saw Cyryll with his fiance and his family. I'm happy for them.

She fiance was holding his hand but... Cy looked bored. It made me looked away when our eyes met.

"OMG! He's looking at you!" Diane squealed.

"What are you guys talking about?!" Alice suddenly appeared. 

"Cyryll was looking at her a minute ago!" Alice said.

"You okay?" Alice asked me, worried.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said.

"Shit! His walking towards us!" Diane panicked. My eyes widened, what the fuck.

"Congrats," I could feel him standing behind me. I turned around to look at him. 

"You too, Congrats!" I smiled. 

"Hi! Akeelah right?" His fiance showed up. "Congrats! Your speech earlier was nice, although not that Great but I think it could work, right, Cy?" She held Cyryll hands. I raised my brows when Cyryll pushed his hands away.

"Zianna, I think they're looking for us already," Cyryll said with a cold voice. Then left.

"I wanna slap that bitch's face!" Alice rolled her eyes. 

"Same! The way she acted is such a diva!" Diane said.

"Let's not talk about that," I said.

"Hey Akeelah! Yo congrats!" Preston ran towards us smiling.

"You too!"

"Just Akeelah? What about us?" Alice pouted.

"Congrats to the both of you!" He awkwardly laughed.

"Just messing with you!" Alice laughed. We were talking together and laughing.

"Preston!" I heard someone call. I turned my head to look. 

It was Primo!

"Oh hi! Nice to meet you again Akeelah!" Primo Smiled. I looked at my friends they looked confused.

"Hi! It's been a long time," I said.

"Yeah it's been I long time since we've broke up!" He laughed sarcastically. My  friends loojed shocked.

"What?!" Diane whispered.

"It's a long story." I laughed awkwardly.

"Yeah a bit long one" Primo laughed.

"Care to introduce him?" Alice raised her brows.

"He's my brother, Primo," Preston introduced.

Primo scoffed, "MD,"

"Stupid jerk!" Preston playfully punched Primo's arm.

_FEW HOURS LATER_

The graduation ended it was a relief but it got controversial when Primo arrived. Primo has been my ex when I was still in senior high but scandals were going around the school that he was cheating on me, but I already moved on from that. He changed though.

Alice hosted a girl's nightout. We swam on their swimming pool, watched movies and did our make ups.

I had a fun time, now we were laying down on our bed, wearing a facial masks. It was so soothing.

"Shit!" Alice yelled. Looking at her phone with wide eyes

"Wash wrong?!" I tired not to move my mouth, trying not to destroy the mask.

"Look at Cyryll's story!" She showed me her phone. It was me on my speech, Captioned 'congrats to everyone!'
