Mind Over Matter

It was late when we got back and I could tell my mom was exhausted. I watched her drape her coat on a chair and painfully take off her fashionable high heels. I slipped off my high-heeled, but very comfortable black sneakers and trotted to my room, knowing who I'd find waiting for me by the feel of the air. I could tell he just got back from hunting and it sort of bothered me to smell another person on him. I slipped into my room and threw my arms around him. He smiled brightly and we silently hugged.

I drifted to sleep that night and I had a dream about Nina. She told me our pack was going to be attacked and we had to be ready as we stalked through the hazy woods. For some reason, it was daylight but I couldn't see very well. I only got flashes of the scene as I heard Vampyres attack us. I looked around wildly, trying to defend my friends, who for some reason were all in the woods with Hal's pack. I couldn't seem to grab onto anybody as I watched Hal's Lycans get killed. When I jumped up, I came in contact with a smooth hard body. Somehow, I ended up on top of them and pushed them to the ground. I felt them pushing me off and I had my hands around their neck so they couldn't throw me off, but they had pulled my hands off and held my forearms together. They pushed me down and I felt the weight of their body on mine and one of their hands over my mouth.

My eyes flickered open in shock to see that Jack had restrained me.

"Oh good. You're awake." He smiled, letting go of my arms and my mouth.

"Sorry," I said, realizing I must've strangled him in my sleep. He dropped back to lay beside me with a deep breath and I sat up.

"What was your dream about?" he asked, with his arms behind his head.

"We were being attacked." I told him simply, not wanting to tell him that it was from Vampyres. "Do you have dreams?" I asked him.

"Yeah, like everyone else."

"Are they scary?"

"Sometimes. Not like yours. I have more good dreams than bad." He explained.

"Well, that's good." I murmured. "Hm...how are your friends?" I asked, thinking about the Vampyres in my dream and how they looked similar to his coven with some of Luther's coven making appearances.

"I don't know," he confessed. "My sister's avoiding me because we got in a fight and the others are involved in other things right now."

"Like what? What do you guys do?" I asked, thinking about how little my friends and me did.

"We're all in school except Helena and we all work."

"Where do you work?" I asked, curiously.

"April and I work for my dad who owns a real estate firm, Darius is a model, and Helena is an art museum curator."

"Hm, cool." I mumbled, trying to picture him working, but unable to. "Did you turn them all?" I asked.

"I didn't turn any of them, actually. April and I were turned by our father. Darius was turned by a vampyre named Selene when he got into a gang fight and they left him to die on the street, and Helena is an Estrie." He explained, making me furrow my eyebrows.

"What the heck is an Estrie?"

"Oh, it just means she was turned by Lilith. I thought you would've known since you're a witch. Some witches worship Lilith and most witches have some allusions to her in their books."

"Most of the allusions in the Blackwell's Book have to do with Lycans." I told him. "How did you add Darius and Helena to your coven? Where did you meet them?"
