I rocked onto my toes and then back onto my heels, waiting awkwardly for Jack. Lynn had her pale blue eyes on me. Jess smiled, watching us with anticipation.
"You're going to like him." Jess told her.
"Why? What's he like?" Lynn asked returning Jess a small smile.
"Uh... mysterious." She thought.
"Mysterious?" she asked with a laugh as I saw Jack saunter in through the glass doors. He arrived by my side with his hands in his pockets and his red eyes looking especially sharp.
"Hey." He said.
"Hey," I answered quietly, unable to resist the smile that pulled at my lips at the sight of him. He looked down at me with something like a smile in his eyes.
"I'm Lynn." She introduced herself, holding out a pale, narrow hand for him to shake and making us turn our eyes away from each other to her.
"Jack." He said, shaking her hand cursorily.
"Where do you want to go? Did you want to get something to eat first?" Jess asked, sounding so excited, I thought she might burst. She had a wide smile on her pale, freckled face and her eyebrows were naturally arched like mine. Jess was naturally blond like her mother so her eyebrows weren't as dark as mine, but the shape of them and our noses were very similar. I always felt like we looked alike and I liked to pretend she was my sister and not just my cousin.
"What color are your eyes for real?" Lynn asked in suspicion as we sat down to have lunch in the food court. Her eyes were narrowed and she had both hands on the table as she leaned towards him.
"Brown-ish." He shrugged.
"You need to take those things out. Have I ever even seen you without those in?" I realized, thinking about how he sleeps in them. He raised his sexy eyebrow at me and only smirked in response. "What is that supposed to mean? I'm going to rip those out of your eyes!" I threatened, reaching to touch his face but getting blocked by a defensive elbow. I reached my other hand faster towards his face and he caught both of my wrists, making me laugh out. He kissed my cheek and let go as Jess got back to the table with food for all of us. We had decided to share two orders of Japanese teriyaki chicken with fried rice because none of us were overly hungry. I noticed quickly that Lynn's body was not unlike mine. I still looked like I was starving to death and to my delight the food actually smelled good to me and made my mouth water. I looked at Jack with surprised delight and he seemed to know exactly what I was thinking as I grabbed a plastic fork and plunged it into the steaming hot, syrupy chicken.
"So, what do you guys do for fun?" Lynn asked, leaning forward towards us to put her fork in the rice but not taking it out.
"Uh, we both like art." I told her, looking at Jack who was chewing quietly. His red eyes flickered up to mine and then flashed to meet Lynn's.
"We're both in school, so we don't get to hang out that often." He shrugged.
"Maybe we should do something fun, like Comic Con or something crazy like that." I murmured, faraway in thought. Jack gave me look like he would never go to Comic Con and I added, "You don't have to dress up! I just want to see it." He shrugged in response, but I knew if I went with all my friends, I could probably get him to come anyway.
"That sounds coooool." Jess sung, looking at Lynn who looked intrigued about joining her girlfriend.
"What do you do for fun?" Jack asked back at Lynn, sitting up taller as he leaned away from the food and sipped at his drink. Lynn smiled slyly, since she had been caught.
